Q: the Truth About Insomnia

Hello all.

It's just after 1am on the east coast of the us and, as you can tell, it's way past my bedtime.

I am not an insomniac, but I have a spouse who, do to her present condition (pregnancy), sleep seems to be ellusive, and I am in supportive mode.

Sleep deprivation has its ups and downs, like working on the net when the whole house is asleep, or just enjoying the tranquility of the still of the night.

Call it whatever you may, insomnia is, sadly, deeply rooted in our psyche, but there are ways to remedy that, like through meditation, relaxation exercises that anyone can undertake with little effort.

Best times for these exercises, in my experience, should not be just before sleep, but perhaps a couple of hours or so before slumber.. More like getting your body attuned to ones' needs.

Music, quiet tones or something to that effect can assist greatly in getting one into the "mood."

most subscribers to these forums seem to be frastrated with the lack of sleep, but perhaps what one needs to do is concentrate on less is more, and more energy is definitely desirable in getting one through the rest of the day!

Scientific evidence points to the fact that the proverbial 8hour sleep is no longer standard.. The 21 century is seeing more people sleep less, yet having boundless energy to pursue other interests.. And without any frustrations whatsoever.

If one cannot sleep during normal night-time sleep, perhaps it is beneficial to seek a "power-nap" during the day? A 10 -15minute power-nap at times is so mucch more refreshing than a full nights' sleep.

I tend to shy away from medication in any situation.. This is only temporary and, when the effects have worn off, it's back to the trenches.

I digress..

We can do so much with our waking times, and perhaps still get a couple of hours sleep here and there..

In light, love and laughter.
