Hey,

i have a recurrent sore throat with red bumps on the back wall of my throat. This sore throat feels "muscular", and not like a cold-style sore throat (stingy). The bumps never go away, but the sore throat comes up about 5 times a year, for 5 days...Symptoms only started a year ago. A year and a half ago I had sex with someone, and he used a condom, but after he was "done" the condom fell off as he pulled out, so I may have gotten cum inside me. Also, I gave him a blow job without a condom, but didn't end up "finishing". How high is my risk based on that?

I've been tested for gonnorhea and chlamydia in my throat, but both tests came back negative. The doctor said my throat bumps are "normal throat veriations", but if you guys saw this, you'd know its not normal!! I also have bumps at the back of my tongue, but perhaps those are just inflamed taste buds. I took amoxicillin the other day for an ear infection, and the ear infection cleared up, but the medication did not affect the sore throat. I often have heart burn, but these bumps are not ulcer-like. They also aren't white, and they are not strep throat. I don't get headaches, or diarrhea, but I get chills and fevers/night sweats (but these only started as of me being stressed out). These bumps do not bleed. Also, my left thumb nail can't seem to grow without cracking virtically, aka "nail changes" (another hiv symptom). I have one bump "down below" that the doctor said is most likely a gland, but could be syphillis...However, there is only one of these bumps, its only about 2mm by 2mm big, and its not a blister, it doesn't bleed or scab over. Its just there. Also, im currently under investigation to why I have so many bladder infections (seeing a kidney specialist).

Doctors have no clue whats wrong with me, but i'm really concerned that I may have hiv. I got blood taken a couple days ago, but I can't get my results for another 4 weeks! Could I have mono? Could it be herpes? Syphillis?

I'm freaking out pleeeeeeease help me anybody.

Symptoms
If at any point you were unprotected, there is some degree of risk. Receptive oral sex carries a very, very low risk particularly without ejaculation.

If you feel that you were at risk, there is no use in discussing these symptoms. Test for hiv three months after your last unprotected encounter.

Your message is quite unclear, but I would say quite confidently that these do not sound like any symptoms of hiv (remember of course that hiv very often has no symptoms until the advanced stages).
I do not know what you mean by 'nail changes', but i'm confident it is not related to hiv. Fingernail problems in hiv patients relate to fungal infections in the late stages of disease.

Certainly, little 'bumps' in places are not an indication of hiv, not even the one 'down below'. The problem is, what you may think is unusual, a medical professional will not. If you would like to clarify the situation, I may be able to discuss risk in a more specific way.

Really though, I cannot help you any more than to say - get tested. It will very, very likely be a negative result from this one episode - if indeed you were exposed at all, which may not be the case considering you are not sure of semen/penile exposure in the first place. I do strongly doubt that hiv is your problem, and would suggest that your anxieties are what you should really address.

More Clarification:
Hey guys,

i first of all want to thank you all for taking the time to respond to my question. Ok, so I realize the symptoms im writing sound kinda vague. Hmm, let me try to further explain.

The other day I noticed that after I brushed my teeth, that some of my saliva I spat out was greyish...Wierd I say. And today on the side of my tongue in a small spot it feels "muscularly sore", but there's no acutal sore. If you guys look to the back wall of your throat, you'll notice its totally flat, but there are color changes of pinks and reds. In the redder spots on my throat wall, its raised. I may have a virus perhaps? Its not a cold or flu, although I do wake up with lots of mucas. Lately my eyes have been very itchy, and for years i've had a abnormal amounts of vaginal discharge...I don't think I have a yeast infection cuz i've had this annoying problem for years. I dunno if its related tho. And you know that flat bone in between your boobs? Just to the right of it there is pain in a 2 inch by 2 inch spot. It feels like the muscles around the ribs are sore, but it has nothing to do with my boob tissue. I feel very confused at times too, almost like i'm going crazy...Maybe im worrying to much? I dunno, I know that i'm not healthy, cuz I have far too many wierd symptoms to not have something, but the symptoms are so damn vague, that I assume I have a weakened immune system due to hiv. If I was ever diagnosed with hiv I dunno what the hell i'd do with myself. Im young, I really have no clue the extent to my freaking out that would occur. And I gues it couldn't be syphillis right? Cuz syphillis you have actual sores that bleed then heal or something right? And it couldn't be herpes....These sore throat seem to happen if the "bacteria" or w/e it is living at the back of my throat, get into my tonsils...God I dunno.

So my question is this: do any of you have any bumps on the back wall of your throat that never leave, and once in a while cause a "muscular sore throat"? If so, have you been diagnosed with anything?

Also: what are all the early hiv symptoms that some of you have?

Thanx for all the help, I am starting to feel a bit better, but I still won't know the results of my blood test for another couple of weeks. I barely eat, and barely sleep, and spend every waking moment stressing out about this. Its ruining my life...Maybe my only problem is psychological hahaha. Talk to you guys later, keep up with the replies please and soo much thank you!

Hi there! It sounds like you might have answered your own question, although I am not a Dr., it does sound to me like you do have a lot of anxiety and stress built up inside of you which I can understand to a certain point, worrying about weather you have hiv, aids, you might be becoming your own worse enemy. Have you thought about checking out an ent(ear, nose, throat) specialist maybe the Dr. Can give you something for your anxiety or maybe go get a second opinion after you do get your tests results back. Please do not take me wrong, I am not judging you, I do understand and would like to see you get the help you need weather it be with regular meds naturopathic or herbal meds.

Good luck to you!

We are here for you!

Please let us know what you find out!

I frequently get a "muscular" sore throat. I've decided that it's my tongue. Your tongue goes down into your throat (thus, how you swallow). I'm convinced I have throat cancer. But i'm also a hypochondriac. Lol. I'm not aware that I have any bumps.
Your doctor told you they were normal. You say they're not. The point is, they're not normal *for you*... If you're really concerned, stay on them and keep going back. But if they continue to tell you it's normal, get a second opinion?

Hello!
Do not worry about the lumps on the back of your tounge and throat they're meant to be there! My cousin is training to become a doctor, she has told me the name of them but I have forgotten! Do not worry about them at all! Go and get tested...You will feel soooo releived when it comes out negative which im sure it will, besides there is no point in wasting your energy worrying about something! Good luck and take care x

Sore Throat
These lumps, whatever they are, are not hiv. It doesn't work like that. Also, your immune system would not normally be significantly diminished by hiv in only a year and a half. These are not issues you should be worried about.

I have sore throats often (i am also hiv negative), and it is sometimes due to a bacteria that lives within the throat flaring up from time to time. Perfectly normal, old chap.

Have a test, be happy at the negative result, and get your ailments sorted out.

Best of luck to you.

[quote="commander"]a humans can have aids for teen years and they dont know that they r infected }

no. A person can have -hiv- for ten years and not know they are infected. Aids is an advanced stage of the hiv virus, when the body's cd4 count falls below 200 in a blood test.

hi chewy
i just posted here. Yes i've had bladder infections since my exposure. The doctor thinks it must be anxiety. I know it is not coz the antibotics gave me some relief for a while till the mild urine infecitons returned. ( I am a male - I think uti are uncommon with males). Ive also got this dry throat all the time, and I did have some red dots on my tongue, but now for the past months i've got little white dots on my upper lip.
I've had 2 hiv tests both negative, and no stds in the tests i've had.

1998 I went to an escort, didnt really do anything with her too nervous there was contact with her vagina and my penish. Anyway I had symtoms around 6weeks later. It was not till 2000 I started to get uti's. I got tested for hiv in august 2005. And again feb 2006.

I hope this helps

I Have the Same Problem.
Hi there,
i am also having the same throat problem. Bumps on my tongue and an aching in my glands on the left side. It's been going on for two months now. I used to smoke and drink alot, but now I live a very healthy lifestyle. I drink 10 glasses of water a day, but I always feel dehydrated.
I don't think i've been exposed to hiv, but I have given unprotected oral sex in the past. But like you, I am freaking out because my symptoms are so chronic.
If you find out what's causing your throat pain, please let me know!
Thanks.

I was recently diagnosed with HIV on September and one of the things the doctor looked for were bumps in the back of my throat. He said he was surprised not to see them because it was very common in the early stages of HIV.

I just got them now 4 months later and the bumps are sore and not even tylenol takes away the pain. What I do for a comfortable night's rest is gargle with Listerine before bed to numb the back of my throat so I can fall asleep in peace.

Everyone,

All of the symptoms listed are general enough that they can't be conclusively attributed to HIV. Doing the HIV antibody test three months post exposure will conclusively tell you if you are HIV negative. If you continue to experience symptoms after that, test for HTLV and other infections.

Best wishes / HTLVhelp
