Globus indicates a "nodule" or "tumor" (can be benign or malignant). In this sense, its meaning is indefinite. An ultrasound and I131-radio scan are usually needed if a globus originates in the thyroid gland. Blood levels of thyroxin and TSH have to be measured to confirm or deny the existence of a possible globus.
