Q: Back Pain And Slouch.

All through my life, i've been a couch potato, so I tend to slouch while sitting or standing.

Here's the problem, i've noticed that I have been getting back pain. If I were to run my hands down my back, I could actually feel my spine. People would always get concerned when they massage my back and feel my spine bulging out in certain areas, especially the mid-back.

I've been slouching too much that it's become part of me. If I were to sit/stand up straight, I get difficulties breathing, and I get more lower back pain when sitting/standing up straight.

I'm an 18 year old male.

Help or advice would be nice.

Getting x-ray's would show you if your spine did not have a natural curve to it. I am no doc, but you may want to try a more conservative method such as yoga. It may sound funny and yes sitting crossed legged with your eye's closed is not for everyone, including me, but there are a lot of beneficial spine stretching excercise's to be learned from it. If you get the satelite channel's check out the health channel.

I second the yoga. It has helped me a lot. Also strengh building in the abs and back will help support you and give you better posture. I also use to slouch a lot. Try and pay attention with the way you sit and try to lay flat on your back and not on the side.
