Q: Are Symptoms Pointing to an Ovarian Cyst?
asked by: DoctorQuestion on February 2nd, 2006
I have been experiencing lower abdomen pain for quite a while. Normally right befor my period. I had a regular obgyn exam in June and nothing was found. i did not tell my doctor about my problems that I was having. It sometimes radiates down my right leg. I have a hard time laying on my right side when I am experienceng this pain. Lately I have been going to the bathroom more than normal. When I have sex, sometines it feels like my husband has hit something and caused a bruise. My periods are starting to become farther apart ( about 35-45 days). I have been going to the doctor regularly to try to get my asthma under control. I do not want to constantly complain about something because I feel like a hypo-condriac. I had pre-cancerous cells removed almost 4 years ago from my cervics. I go for regular paps every six months, they have all been negative. Should I be more concerned? Could this just be a cyst? Ovarian cancer does not run in my family and I am other wise a healthy 34 year old mother.

Ovarian Cancer Answer A358
Abdominal and vaginal ultrasound checks are necessary to examine the abdominal and pelvic organs, including the ovaries. A colposcopy and another Pap smear will most likely be also needed. Ovarian cyst(s) can cause similar symptoms but this must first be confirmed. Standard blood analyses and additional hormonal analyses may be needed to diagnose the origin of your symptoms.
