Q: Are Sore Breasts a Sign of Miscarriage?
asked by: DoctorQuestion on February 1st, 2006
I just found out that I was pregnant 3 days ago. My breasts were very sore for the first day and gradually got less. Now they are not sore at all. I was concerned this was a bad sign that maybe the Hcg levels ahd stopped rising or possible miscarriage coming. There has been no bleeding but with my previous child they were sore for a longer period of time than 2 days. Is this a bad sign?

“Sore breasts” are a very subjective symptom of pregnancy; the presence of this symptom or lack thereof doesn’t really indicate anything. Spotting and abdominal cramps during pregnancy are symptoms that should be taken as very serious signs of possible miscarriage. Since you are not experiencing these symptoms, we can’t talk about possible miscarriage in your case. It is true that hCG-levels increase rapidly during first 7 weeks of pregnancy and if they stop increasing during that period, we interpret this as a bad sign for continuing fetal development.
