I did not know where to put this so if it is in the wrong subforum just move it.

For the last year or two I will wake up in the middle of the night in excrutiating pain. It comes from the calf muscle of my leg. It's not sharp pains but it feels like someone has my leg in a metal clamp and is squeezing. At first it was nothing just uncomfortable and I brushed it off as cramps.

Then for the last couple of months (it has happened 4 times in the last 3 months.) I would wake up around four of five a.M. And I would just scream. It would hurt so bad all I could so was scream and hold my leg. It would last almost three minutes and I would not be able to walk on that leg for hours.

I do not know wether or not to go to the doctor because I do not have the money to spare if this is nothing. So should I go?

Extremely eHealthy
My suggestion would be to go and have it checked out, let them know that you have no insurance and some dr's are willing to set up a payment plan. I am not a Dr. It could be something small or large, it could be a pulled muscle or a blood clot. Your legs and health are important to you!
Good luck!

How old are you? I know when I was a teenager I got really bad charlie horses for months. Does it seem like your leg tenses up and almost feels hard? If so that could be it.

Yes, this sounds like a charliehorse (muscle cramp). Make sure you're getting enough magnesium. You could try a calcium/magnesium supplement. Also might help if you try homeopathic cell salts. Sold in most healthfood stores. Look for one that says its for muscle cramps.

I had leg cramps for the past 4 years, I am free of them now. I got them after my tubaligation surgery, I believe I was allergic to the metal clips they put in me. After the removal I have been feeling better. Here are some things that helped me, epson salt baths, 2 cups to tub, tsp of salt in warm water each morning, essential oils (pure ones gary young's)No alcohol. No smoking. Reduction of carb's, especially bread. Flexerill a medication from a doctor. You have to find out what is causing them, lay quietly and ask yourself, you may know the answer, if not seek help. Perhaps a naturopath would be cheaper than a doctor. Massage with a rain drop treatment with reflexology helped. An osteopath helped and so did craniosacral. Bottom line for me is I had to get the metal out of my body, it was toxic and destroyed my adrenal glands, which I am now working at healing. Look up Louise Hay and see what legs are about, often times it is our emotions or spiritual wellness/sickness that causes our discomfort. Not being willing to look at that level will just keep the pattern in motion. Be brave and ask the big questions of yourself, I believe we have our answers in side but often times we are to fearful to ask.

RLS? Sharp pain shoots down left side, from brain to calf bone.
The pain I'm having is not so much muscular as it is just an *extremely* powerful almost electrical pulse that starts in my head and travels almost instantly to my left calf area, only it seems to follow a nerve all the wat down, so I can pinpoint exactly where the pain is the whole time, including a few minutes of residuals in the bone area of my left calf. The pain is so intense that it makes my whole body jump, making my left leg twich. My wife gave me some Quinine pills that she took for a case of RLS she had a while back, and those helped, but only for about 20-30 minutes, then the pain came back momentarily. I've had 4 incidences of this in the past 2 days now, but never before, and nothing has changed significantly in my life. Any suggestions? if it keeps up, at what point do I get worried and find an MD? I'm fairly healthy physically, so this worries me a bit.
Thanks.
