Cracked Jaw Due to Wisdom Teeth Removal
Posted: 01-31-06 21:16pm

Hi,

i recently had my wisdom teeth removed and just found out that my jaw is now cracked because of it. Is this normal? I'm in my early 20s and have always had a healthy mouth and teeth. My oral surgeon told me to eat soft foods for the next few weeks and limit movement, but that it may fully break and require my mouth to be wired shut for six weeks... Has anyone else experienced this? If so, did you end up needing your mouth wired shut?

Any insight you could offer would be greatly appreciated!!!

Hello, I am sorry to hear what happened to you. This happened to my aunt expect she broke her lower jaw when she had her lowers removed. They wired it shut and I took care of her.

It can happen on lowers, also if your oral surgeon isn't very skilled moreso to be more careful this happens. Its a chance thing too if you have low bone dentisty etc. If you smoke, tak birth control pills which deplete your calcium absorption this is common-

in any case- soft foods yes and multivitamin would be a very good idea for you as well as drinking some milk and cheese.

When they wire it shut, they simple take your two upper and lower k9 teeth (the point front ones) and they glue a braces bracket to it and they wire them together top to bottom. You must take care to not choke of shakes your drink then and saliva as this can be very dangerous and you would need somoene to cut the wires asap for you with some cutters- however I wouldn't worry, you are very young still and should heal well if you are healthy and have a good diet and make sure to rest, and sleep often to allow for you rbody to repair itself.

I wish you luck, but I am sure you will be fine. If you don't feel any better etc I would hesistate to get a second opinion either if you are unsure of your condition improiving or not.
