Q: Baby Having Sleeping Problems

Hi all,

i am new to this forum :d . My baby boy is 13 mths old and he is having problems sleeping.

1) he has not been able to sleep through the night since he was born. He seems to be waking up several times every night. He does not take formula milk and he will only go back to sleep after been breastfed (many times at night).

2) occasionally, he will burst out into uncontrollable loud crying in the middle of the night. He seems to be in a fit like condition when he crys like this. It seems the only way to stop his crying is to wake him up. However, it usually takes 3 to 10mins for us to wake him. Our pediatrician claims that it could be that he is teething. Does anyone have such an experience also?

Pls help. :(

Have you tried chiropractic treatment with him? The chiropractor won't snap or crack anything, it would be worth looking into because I have seen it work with a lot a babies and it is very safe.

Baby Having Sleeping Problems
First of all I feel sorry for your wife if she is still breastfeeding this child at this age. He needs to be weaned now, should have been done at 6 months. Is your wife still breastfeeding him during the day? Are you feeding him regular food or baby food? It is possible that he is not getting enough food to eat. If you give him more solid foods and more choices on fluids he will eventually get off the breast. Try using a cup because he is definitely too old for a bottle.
You definitely need to get him off the breast because you don't want to still be doing this when he is 5years old. That has been known to happen and d.F.C.S. Doesn't condone it, they treat it as abuse.
If you need help with setting up a feeding schedule, let me know and I will help the best that I can.

Thomas it sounds like night terrors. Has your doctor said anything about them? I was lucky that my son didn't go thru night terrors but i've babysat children that had them and they are more frightening to the person watching than it is for the baby.

You can find all kinds of wonderful information on the net about night terrors on the net (probably some parents on this site have had the same problem). Its also called sleep terrors. Its a sleeping disorder that occurs because the child isn't getting into a deep sleep.

As the poster above mentioned maybe your baby isn't getting full enough with his diet and an empty stomach is waking him up?

Here is one article i've found on night terrors but there is alot more informaton out there if you think this might be your son's problem.
