Systemic lupus erithematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease. It is a kind of allergy where the immune system attacks its own structures, producing antibodies against them. These antibodies bind to various antigens and create further immune complexes. These complexes then manifest in various organs (skin, kidneys, joints, muscles, brain, heard…),provoking inflammations. The etiology of SLE is unknown at this time; it is, however, genetically and environmentally conditioned. There are specific laboratory tests that help doctors diagnose SLE. You can go to your doctor because the diagnosis must be confirmed by specific tests, not just symptoms.
