Q: Diagnostic Procedure for Identifying Abdominal Pain
asked by: DoctorQuestion on January 30th, 2006
For the past 3 years around this time of year (jan-march) I have had a "stich" or discomforting pain on my right side the runs from my belly button to right below my rib cage. I have an ultra sound of my liver done last year and it showed nothing. What could this be? What muscles and or organs are in that area that could be causing this? Should I be concerned?

If your ultrasound results were OK, the only diagnostic procedure remaining is to request a gastro-duodenoscopya. The pain could be caused by stomach or duodenum inflammation (gastritis/duodenitis), a peptic ulcer, or diverticulum. These diseases can’t be diagnosed with ultrasound. If the gastroduodenoscopya returns normal, the pain probably originates from muscles (myalgia) or nerves (neuralgia).
