Nopal For Diabetes Posted: 08-11-03 07:07am
Is there anyone who has been taking nopal
(herbal alternative medicine, cactus
powder from mexico)?
I heard this thing a lot about its ability
to lower blood sugar level and cholestrol.
I found few information regarding
potential benefits but none about side
effects or safety concerns.
I have type I for about 18 years, started
when I was 35. In general, i've been
controlling blood sugar and cholestrol in
good stage. But I had quadruple open
heart surgery in 1994, probably the
complication of having diabetes.
Diabetes type 1 is autoimmune disease
where pancreas cells that produce insulin
are completely destroyed. So, insulin must
be taken from outside. No herbal medicine
can replace the insulin.
It may help in case of Diabetes type-2
where pancreas produce insulin but not on
time or produced insulin is not effective
(insulin resistance).
