Hystorectomy
Posted: 03-16-06 02:10am

I had my hystorectomy 3 years ago due to the fact my blood count was on an average of 3 to 5 (normal is 12-14) I had a cyst bust on my right ovary and a mass growing at the same time I had a disease on my uterus alot of liesions. I was in the er at least 3-4 times a month for over 8 years until I finally got a hold of the right people. The surgery it self wasn't bad the only real complication I had was I couldn't hold anything down for a couple of days. My surgery was a complete hysterectomy. They tried the whole hormone thing but all it did was make my mood swings worse. So for the last 2 years I haven't taken any hrts. My main complaint now is I have no will to have sex I still have some pretty bad hot flashes and when I do have sex it is the worst pain I have ever felt and I have 3 kids (by c-sections). I still bleed slightly after sex nad cramp so bad im in bed the next day. I've been to the doctors over and over but they say they can't find anything. But I can tell you this with a pain like that it's not in my head. One thing I can say is if I had it to do all over again I would'nt chang a thing. The pain I was in before and as sick as I was having 2 blood transfusions within 6 months plus the pain and having to take care of my children it seems like being pain free on a daily basis was worth it all. I am just glad now I can be here for my kids and be healthy enough to be there for them when they need them. I hope you do the right thing that is best for you but you also have to look at the long time effect on your decision. There is always going to be side effects on what ever you do you just have to weight the options and ask yourself whats more important.

Life After Hysterectomy
Posted: 03-22-06 00:53am

I was diagnosed with endometreosis when I was 19, I had four surgrys to remove endo or adheasions, and appindectomy, and severly hemmoraged and nearly died with my last daughter. I stayed on a period more often then not. Finally I had a hysterectomy when I was 26, it was the best thing I ever did. I suffered with female problem since I was 16, and finally, after my hysterectomy I felt normal. That was 6 years ago since I am now 32, and I still think that way. I did keep my ovaries, but they removed the fallopian tubes and all the rest. There is a chance it will come back since I did keep them, but I think I made the sight desicion.

Best Thing I've Ever Done
Posted: 07-26-06 23:06pm

I had a complete hysterectomy in june 2004. I have severe endo and everything had to go. I was 34 years old at the time. Before surgery I stayed in constant pain. Some days I couldn't hardly walk, it hurt so bad. Sex was so painful, I dreaded it. My surgery was wonderful. I was up the next day, moving slowly, and was only off work for 4 wks. Since the hyst., my only problem is weight gain. I've gained 15 pds since. I have to really watch what I eat. I was on premarin and hated it. I gained like 20 pds in the first 6 mths and had bad headaches. I called my gyno and she changed me to a low does of estradol, and it's been better. Weight gain is still problem. If I could tell you one thing, listen to your Dr. Don't do more than they tell you to.

Good luck
god bless

I had my vaginal (partial removed uterus/cervix) hysterectomy in december, after giving birth to my son my uterus prolapsed. Along with many other problems, the doctor said the hysterectomy was my best option.

At the time my children were 5, 20 months, and 3 months. My husband was home alone with them. He brought them to me at the hospital 2 days post op to visit. Men of course, aren't that great with kids, they hadn't had a bath in the 2 days i'd been in the hospital, so I was up bathing all 3 of them in the bathtub not even 48 hrs post op. I felt fine (i had drugs too though..Lol) I came home and was back to normal taking care of kids, dinner etc, right afterwords. So the surgery part wasn't a big pain.

Unfortunately because of my diabetes, I ended up with a post op infection that lasted for months. They kept treating symptoms instead of the true infection. It was systemic and had taken over my whole body. Needless to day I felt like poop for months, but once they figured out the problem, and fixed it, i've pretty much been fine. The only complaint I really have now, is a scar tissue problem where my cervix had been, and the fact that my doctor didn't do a bladder sling while he was in there. Dunno why he never assumed that if my uterus fell my bladder probably did too.

I'm 27, and have been pregnant 5 times in the last 4 yrs. 2 miscarriages, a stillbirth, 4 d&c's, laparoscopes, a son born at 8 months, and finally my last was born at 38 wks weighing almost 9lbs. My body was shot. I'm saddened that I can't try anymore, but I was finally lucky and blessed with two beautiful boys, and my doctor said at least with my uterus gone, i'll be around long enough to watch them grow up.

hi I just wanted to let you know that I had the surgery about 5 years ago and did not take any hrt. I did however, take testostrone. I noticed no differance. I also did not like the possable side effects. I feel wonderful and sex is soooo good now. No pain!!! I only had one bad side effect and that was vaginal dryness. Otherwise, I don't miss painful periods, sex, back pain, moodiness..... Need I go on? Good luck to you sweetie and try not to fall for all the bad press on the subject. I am so happy that I did it and don't feel any less of a woman. As I said before, my sex life is the best it's ever ever been!!!

Not ready 4 this,

i was much like you. Sever endo that came back after surgery. My periods were very, very painful to the point of me having to be in bed with a heatting pad and on tons of pain pills to even function. I even missed tons of work and lost several jobs due to this over the last 20 years.

I started bleeding and bleed straight for 2 months and it wasn't fresh some of it was old blood. I was exhausted, tired of the pain and flat out sick of knowing I was never going to get pregnant.

The majority of my symptoms are like yours plus a few more.
I jumped when I was told I had to have a hystorectomy. I didn't want to because I had always wanted kids but I was willing because I was tired of all the pain and problems I had been dealing with since I was 15.

So basically before the hystorectomy I felt terrible.

After well, I feel tons better but I do have some side effects I will have to deal with and work through. Honestly I am amazed at how much better I feel. I am tired and from my waist down to my knees its pretty much numb and will be for awhile. And every onces in awhile I get weird sensations like sometimes for a few hours it will feel like I am going to start my period and then I think oh ya thats right I can't have that anymore thank god. And there are other pains and swelling that are not sever but will go away with time.

Fact of the matter is for my own personal well being and my chances of ovarian and urteran cancer, and the pain from the pcos and endo I am happy that I had it done.

You need to write out a list of the positive and negitives of before and after that way you can see which is the better option. I know on mine the positives of the aftermath was the winner.

I hope this helps you and others even if it is just a little bit.

considering hysterectomy?

I also had severe endo, adhesions, 5 laps, adenomyosis, and a very small fibroid. Pain in the abdomen from a damaged nerve from previuos surgeries.

Went to about 20 gyns in 3 different states....all told me to have a hyst. I asked questions, got laughed at, was lied to.

They took my HEALTHY (from lab report ) uterus, and HEALTHY (slight endo) ovaries. I have been SICK for 3 years, unable to find the right hormonal balance. Almost lost my husband. Cannot have children, and now am too sick to adopt. Cannot work.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE check out the HERS website, Elizabeth Plourde's books and Sans-uteri forum, and STAY AWAY from the PRO-Hysterectomy websites, such as Hystersisters. READ. READ. PlEASE do not jump into the hysterectomy, full or partial. Do not let them TOUCH your precious ovaries. Our ovaries keep functioning well into old age. They produce over 60 percent of testosterone. ALL of your progesterone. Aid the adrenals, and aid the thyroid. Give you libido, strength, and health. Take it from one of the ones who was misinformed and eventually castrated, who can NEVER get her old life back.

I write this not to scare you, but to keep you from a fate which I share with over 5 personal friends who had this done for minor problems.

God bless you.

I had my hyst 3 months ago. I am slowly getting back to normal. Like Kia says everyone is different. Mine was a complete hyst with ovaries removed. I am 50 so I was near enough menopause that my symptoms aren't too bad. I have mild hot flashes and vaginal dryness. I have to admit I was nervous after surgery what to expect but I was relieved that everything seemed to heal alright. I think the hardest part is being patient and letting yourself rest and heal. Once you start feeling better you tend to do more than you should. I found those 6 - 8 weeks after surgery extremely boring. stretch

Hi, I had my hysterectomy the day after Christmas. I had been having terrible problems before than and bleeding and pain with sex and quite frankly didn't want to have sex. I was going to my doctor for 14 years and had been being told my paps was coming out fine each year. 2 years ago though I had my pap smear and did not receive a call from the doctor to tell me my results. I called 3 weeks later and was told that they would call me back and still nothing. I called again and they said they was still waiting on the results, I did not believe what I was being told. 3 more weeks passed and I called again and was told that they had been missed placed then was called the next day and was told that the results were fine. I did not believe this. So therefore I went to get a second opinion. That doctor rushed the tested and I was told I had mild to moderate cervical cancer and was referred to a specialist. He found a tumor and ran tests and I was basically told I needed a hysterectomy. I knew this was going to be the outcome simply because 4 years before that I had begun to have heavy bleeding and began passing heavy blood clots and was changing my protection every hour, at that time the doctor burned the lining of my uterus and when I began bleeding again and passing clots and was in pain I knew something was wrong. However since my hysterectomy I am still in pain in the area of my incision it is still numb and at times I still feel like the pulling sensations I felt right after my surgery. It's now of course 4 months later and I'm nervous. I was told it takes a very long time to heal but am confused at these symptoms I still have. My doctor kept my ovaries
so that I would not begin menapause, but am concerned because I do hear that cancer can come from ovarian cancer. If anyone has had their surgery and it seems as though recovering can take alot longer please I would apreciate any feedback.

I have severe endometriosis, enlarge uterus with fibroids and multiple adhesions. I have severe pelvic and lower back pain, extremely heavy periods, my hemoglobin was 7 (normal should be 12-14). I am so tired all of the time.

But, from what I have read, it's worse after the hyst.

I am worried about a lot, but to be honest. I like my hormones. I enjoy sex and it is a large part of my relationship. Is there anyone who has a normal sex life after a hysterectomy?? Has anyone tried different hormones? Has anyone tried testosterone? If so, what were the outcome?

I am close to changing my mind and living with the pain and fatigue.
