St John's Wort
Careful with this. U need to monitor ur blood pressure when taking this. A friend of mine had a stroke; I tried using it, and it made my bp go up, too. Hope it works for u. :d

Yes, St John's wort (Hypericum perforatum) is the first choice. I don't have any bad experience regarding blood pressure, but not take St John's wort during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or with other medicines without first consulting your doctor. The herb can cause sensitivity to sunlight, try to stay out of the sun as much as possible while you are taking it.

for me, personally, I use Vitamin D, but mostly as a substitute after I finished my course with Effexor. Though I'm not so depressed anymore, I find that vitamin D helps with the physical symptoms, especially in the winter time when I'm not getting as much sun as I should be getting. It's worth a shot. Just simple Vitamin D supplements usually do the trick. It's amazing how much more bearable depression is without the physical symptoms you can get (achy, stuffy, lousy feeling etc).

You can try two things over-the-counter.

L-Tyrosine - Precursor to dopamine which is a chemical used in your brains natural reward system. It can help with stress and regulate sleep patterns.

5-HTP - Precursor to serotonin which is a chemical in your brain that helps regulate your mood and appetite.
