Q: What Can Help Control Shoulder and Arm Pain?
asked by: DoctorQuestion on January 27th, 2006
I have had shoulder and arm pain(pain scale 8-10) since Aug. of 05.
Was diagnosed last week with tendinitis, x-ray showed calcificication on top of shoulder and scare tissue due to lymph-node dissection. Doctor says it is not wise to give cortisteroid injection at this time as there could be cancer cells there still. Have been taking pin killers and muscle relaxant for months with no relief. Any suggestions for pain control would be greatly appreciated. Was diagnosed with breast cancer last year, had chemo and radiation, same side as the pain.
Thank you.

I don’t know what kind of painkillers you have used. You might consult your doctor to request stronger analgesics than the previous ones. It is also possible that scar tissue, developed from irradiation, is creating pressure on the nerves and causing pain. Either way, follow up with your doctor for more information and treatment recommendations.
