Hi! a few months ago i had to go for a
endoscopy (camera in stomach) I was
sedated but they couldnt get ther camera
down my throat as i kept gagging and
pulling the camera out of my mouth.
Yesterday i went to see a surgeon who said
he would perfom the Endoscopy under
general surgery using propofol.
Ive looked on the internet and one site
tells you one thing and another states
different. Can you tell me wether i will
be completly knocked out or just put under
mild sedation. I am very worried i may
wake up during the procedure and panick! I
hope you can advise me promply as i have
tried to talk to my sergeon but he is
always very busy to talk. My appointment
is the end of april.
Propofol causes unconsciousness; in other
words, you will be completely knocked out
so you can't wake up and panic during the
procedure. Unlike other intravenous
anesthetics, you will be able to stand up
20 minutes after the intervention with
almost no side effects.
