Possible Bi-polar, Definate Hyper Activity Posted: 12-27-03 19:32pm
I had a girlfriend whose son shown several
hyperactivities and they had his adnoids
and tonsilles removed. What connection
would this type of surgery have if a child
is displaying hyper actions? And could
this be a treatment to help a child maybe
with signs of adha or bi-polar?

The only thing I can think of, is that the
t and a needed to be done, and the only
relationship I know of is that sometimes
sleep disorders can cause bipolar-like and
hyperactive symptoms. I really don't
think it's a treatment or cure in itself
for adhd or bpd, just that the tonsils
were most likely inflammed to the point
they needed to be removed. The child
could very well be hyperactive or bipolar
along with this, too. I'm not a doctor
or anything, but from what i've read and
researched, i've never come across any
connection to the tonsils or adnoids that
would result in either of these disorders.

I totally agree with nansmom - no
connection.
If yuo have or know of a child who has
been diagnosed or who people think is
add/adhd or bi-polar be careful these are
"in vogue" illnessses at the moment, which
is not to say they don't exist, of course
they do, just not necessarily ineveryone
who is given that label.

I Have a Son That Is Bp & Adhd & Had His Tonsils &am Posted: 01-13-04 16:08pm
Removed. I don't think there is a link
with the tonsils & adnoids he just had
constant tonsilitus & large adnoids.
He is almost 7 now & is being treated
for bp & adhd. We have a great child
psychiatrist that we use with him. I
have bp & my husband adhd. These
illnesses are diffenatly hereditary. It
is obvious he was born with them both. I
am thankful we got help for him before he
was any older. He takes a mood stablizer
& concerta. He has done great on
these meds & it has changed his life
& ours. Before I feared the worst
for him as he got older.
If you think this child is bp & or
adhd please have your friend seek help for
him. There are meds they can take that
are very good & they are making
medical advances in this all the time.
Mood stablizers are the same thing they
give people with epilepsy. I take one
too. It will change his life for the
better.
