Loss of Sensation, Fatigue, Brain Fog, Etc. Posted: 01-24-06 14:02pm
Loss of sensation as in I find it hard to
differentiate between similar feeling
things such as paper and dollars bills
which is normally easy.
Fatigue as in I can sleep however long I
want but I am tired a few hours after
waking up.
Brian fog and forgetfullness, I just can't
concentrate on anything or remember
anything important. Last time this
happened I just quit school work for a
week because it was way too hard to do.
I feel disconnected as if i'm almost in a
dream, when walking it barely feels like
my legs are moving. When walking up
stairs my legs feel weak.
Another thing I just noticied this time is
I can barely tell when I need to use the
bathroom. Normally when I have to piss my
body is yelling at me to piss but now I
barely feel it. When I do finally go it
is as if I just got out of a 4 hour
movie.
I have had had this about 5 times now. I
have no idea how it gets started I just
suddenly notice it one day then it goes
away in anywhere from a week to three
weeks. The doctors (the 2 out of 5 times
I have gone) have done blood tests and
checked my throid levels and electrolyte
levels and they have been normal both
times. Neither doctors have felt the need
to do anything different so I leave with
no more knowledge than I entered with.
What could this be?

Did the drs recommend a specialist? Its
interesting that it is periodic but you
don't know what brings it on. Try hard
to make a connection between the episodes,
is it stress, diet, sleep patterns? Does
it go away very soon after you see the dr?
Do you take any supplements or drink
herbal teas regularly? When you're not
having an episode how do you feel,
grounded, functioning well mentally, and
stable energy levels? Any odd pains at
all during an episode, headache, strange
or recurring dreams?

Thats the thing, it is nearly impssible to
make any connection to what brings it on.
Once it happened when I was on vacation in
hawaii and well slept, well fed and
relaxed. Other times it happens when i'm
under a lot of stress. I have never been
able to find enough similarities to the
days leading up to the problem to figure
out a cause.
Going to the doctor does nothing to help
it go away. This time, it went away for
most of the day but came back at night.
All I take is a simple multi-vitamin, no
tea or anything else other than the normal
three meals.
When i'm not having an episode I fell very
nice, able to sit do and do any work for
as long as I have to. Well connected to
what is happening, low energy but a
constant level. During an episode I can
never get any work done and there never
seen to be any dreams, headaches, or
anything like that, the thing that stands
out the most is the lack of sensation but
not numbness, things just don't feel as
sharp as the should.
I've never been recomended to a specialist
and wouldn't know what kind of a
specialist to go to without a
recomendation.

I would suggest seeing a neurologist.
There are a couple possibilities here, one
is that there is a physical problem with
your brain. Your brain is having
episodes where it is not communicating
well with your body. This impaired
functioning could be from multiple
sclerosis, a brain tumor, etc. However,
don't get scared. Because the other drs
didn't think this was terribly serious
they may be thinking that it is more of a
psychological problem (this doesn't mean
you should skip the trip to the
neurologist, call your Dr. And ask for a
recommendation). So let me ask some
questions: have your episodes coincided
with periods of depression? Any
traumatic events in your history (one
psych disorder that has symptoms similar
to yours is highly correlated with
traumatic experience in childhood)? How
frequently do these episodes occur, you've
had 5 over the past year, month?? Have
you ever been able to induce an experience
similar to these episodes with drugs,
psychotherapy, etc?

Go see your regular Dr., tell him
everything> I am not a Dr., it could
be psychological or neurological and
without treatment it could get worse.
The best to you!
Keep us posted.

I would not say that the episodes have
coincided with a period of depression
because it is a different feeling. I do
get depressed once in a while, and I ust
feel sad but when I force myself to work I
can still finish things when depressed.
Sure, I had tramatic things happen in my
childhood. I once had a rock fly into my
head which caused me to bleed through an
entire beach towel, fell down and broke my
two front teeth, and other things that
happened when I was too young to remember.
I guess the only way to figure out if
those are the problems would be a some
therapy right?
I think I probably have at this happen 5
times or very near to 5 times in the last
full year. Now that you ask the
question, there are similarities to these
episodes and the feeling of being high on
marijuana. I had these episodes even
before I began smoking weed though. Just
the disconnectedness feels similar. I
get none of the happy let loose feelings
of being high.
I just looked at the symptoms and things
for ms and it sounds very similar. There
is even one type that comes and goes just
as my symptoms have been doing.

Whell I have been getting simular symptoms
mine include brain fog forgetfulness and
when I try to think of my childhood I just
get all confused and its really hard to
remember. I get tired I feel sick to my
stomach I got the doctors to do a blood
test I have been checked for
diabetes,stds,hiv,and I have had pap
smears and everything came back
negative so I am clueless to as what is
wrong with me.But I did get into a
accident like 2 1/2 years ago and I banged
my head pretty hard and my stepfather was
killled like do you think that this could
have anything to do with it???

Just because ms has symptoms similar to
yours doesn't mean you should begin
thinking you have ms. Wait till the
neurologist can tell you a yes or no. I
say this because the ability of the mind
to influence the body is vastly
underappreciated. The most important
thing for you to do right now is to
envision the outcome you most desire and
maintain that as your focus.
If your episodes are related to a past
event then thats great because you can
start working on that right away. There
are two ways you might get more
information on this from your
subconscious-- 1. If you remember your
dreams easily then before you go to bed at
night try to relax, clear your mind, and
request that your dreams help you resolve
any issues you may be having (even if you
don't remember your dreams you should try
this. Dreams can be therapeutic w/o
being remembered). Do this every night
till you get some resolution. 2. While
awake relax your body entirely, clear you
mind to a blank white slate, state your
intention (internally) to become aware of
past issues that are causing problems in
your life. This may take several
attempts. Don't judge yourself, just
note any images or thoughts that pop into
your head.
With either of these methods you may get
memories, images, words. Focus on these
and note how you feel. Try to accept
these feelings and then release them-- it
may help to visualize them actually
leaving your body as you breathe out.
These things are easy to do and free, so
its worth trying them. You may be
suprised by the changes in your life.
I would like to know how things turn out
for you if you don't mind posting about
any changes. Good luck with it all!

Go to your doc, get a blood test and iron
studdies. May be iron def anemia (low
iron in the blood) that can cause fatigue,
weakness, inability to concentrate,
shortness of breath on exertion. Your
body is obviously trying to tell you
something by giving you all these
symptoms, listen to it and see your
doctor. Cheers amber

Brain Fog, Etc. Posted: 03-25-06 23:37pm
Hi gobd:
i've had very similar symptoms on and
off for eight months, been to nine doctors
including a psychiatrist and a
gastroenterologist. I've also been having
racing heart (tachycardia), very bad gi
problems, severe muscle twitches, sleep
jerks (myoclonus), and sudden high blood
pressure. Every test (and there have been
a lot...) has been within normal ranges.
Four doctors diagnosed stress, but the
psychiatrist disagreed, and said there is
an underlying physical cause. I've done
piles of resaerch on the internet, and
have this just week discovered that it is
almost certainly a magnesium depletion,
which has led to a slight potassium
depletion. I drank very heavily for many
years, which depletes mag. I also ate
tons of phytate-containing foods, such as
whole grains, soy products, legumes,
sprouted beans, etc. Phytate binds with
magnesium and prevents its absorption. I
also stared a fairly intense exercise
program last year, (which put a further
strain on my reserves)right up until all
this started. The thing about magnesium
and potassium is that 98% is stored in
tissue, not blood, so a standard blood
test will show normal serum levels, while
you are actually depleted. Magnesium is
necessaryfor over 300 body functions. I
stared taking 300mg of magnesium five days
ago and already feel better than I have
since august. Ofcourse, itis too early to
tell, as the symptoms have been coming and
going, but it is worth checking into. It
takes about six weeks to replenish your
magnesium stores, as your cells can only
absorb and heal at a certain rate.
Good luck!!
