Hey ladies, I know that a month or so ago
I posted about being scared about my first
gyno appt. Well, I went in the beginning
of jan and the Dr. Did a pap smear.
First of all, i'm a virgin, only fooled
around with my guy but we've been in at
least underwear everytime so it hurt so
bad! I know that there is no way I can
be pregnant because we've never had sex or
even genital to genital contact.
However, my pap results came back
abnormal. I'm not sure what that means
and i've got to go back in march for
another pap. My mom said that it's vrey
normal for women to get abnormal results
but I can't stop thinking that something
is wrong with me.
I got my period about 2 days after I went,
could that have something to do with the
abnormal results? That is the only thing
I could think of that would be wrong.
Please give me some advice because i'm
scared and have no idea what is going on.
Thanks

Your mom was right. Now if your boyfriend
has ever penetrated you with his finger,
he could have introduced some germs that
have given you a yeast infection. My mom
used to tell me..Make sure he washes his
hands. At most an abnormal pap smear just
means that you need to see the doctor to
try and find out why the test was
abnormal. I have accually have had the
pre-stages of cervical cancer. Believe me
when you have a runny white discharge and
a very foul odor then you should start
getting worried. Just go back to the
doctor and find out what's wrong, you may
get a script for antibiotics. Hope this
helped.

A yeast infection wouldn't give you
abnormal results; when you get an
"abnormal" pap smear, that means something
in the cervical cells they collected is
abnormal. Since you're a virgin, it isn't
hpv (human pappiloma virus). Hpv is the
most common reason for having abnormal
results. In your case, I wouldn't be too
worried. There may be some slight
abnormalities in your cervical cells to
make the test come back the way it did.
It also could be absolutely nothing; the
next pap smear you get in march will help
determine if the results were correct or
not. I really wouldn't worry about it,
hun. Like your mom said, lots of women
have abnormal results, and in this case,
it could be a complete mistake.
