Q: Do I Need a Root Canal?

Hi,

have made a dental appointment about the following but was wondering what to expect.

I have a recurring pimple in my mouth, which I know is an indicator of an abscess. However, it is not around my teeth but beyond, my upper wisdom teeth toward the back of my mouth. Could it still be an infection on one of my teeth? Am worried about the potential cost of a root canal.

Thanks

Hi
Yes , root canals are very exspensive if you dont have dental issuarance, with mine, my insurance is metlife, so only 1500 every year which is not that good, but man it sure uses it up, it depends what dental insurance you have too. But if its a tooth you cant see and its the back, I would have antibiotics and pain pills to take and when it gets better, then I would just have it pulled. Thats just my opinion, and it would save you alot of money in your pocket. Some dentist just see the $$$ signs coming.

Actually most dental insurance is only 1 to 2 thousand a year for work to be done. Since it is january you should have a fresh boat to sail on.

I think the typical cost of a root canal is about $900 and can be as little as $500 if you are a self pay customer. If you have an established relationship with your dentist, they will probably be more than happy to work out a payment schedule with you.

I tend to disagree with mary only because I do not want them pulling out my chompers yet it is the most effective way to get rid of the problem.

For e to have my wisdoms pulled, the navy sat me in a chair at boone clinic and started to yank on one of my wisdoms and I didn't get numb but he just kept on and I was screaming, after 17 injections with carbocaine and marcaine and even a blindfold to see if I was faking, (all the while in utter agony) they loaded me up in an ambulance and took me to portsmouth naval hospital to be put under general anesthesia and have my wisdoms removed. Needless to say I don't have a good feeling about losing more teeth, also the dry sockets were so bad that they had me taking demeral tablets with vicodan 7.5/650 for breakthrough.

If you can do the root canal it will benefit you in the long run. (just one terrified of the dentist guy to another)

Hi
Oh I didnt know that it was a wisdom tooth he or she was talking about, yes my husband had all four wisdm teeth pulled at once and he was sent to a oral surgeon to have them pulled, and they put him to sleep for that. And yes, of course he had dried socket in all four of his holes, because he sucked on things and plus he dips, and thats why he suffered like he did. That was about 2 years ago, if your having a wisdom tooth cut out , their not so bad, I really didnt like the fact they pulled all four at once on my husband. I would consider one a time.
