How Do You Tell Your Friends? Posted: 01-22-06 18:49pm
I was just wondering if you have told your
friends, how did you go about doing it?
I'm not even sure if I want to tell mine
because they are always making fun of
people who look like they have an eating
disorder or saying stuff like in a joking
way about builimia like "well if you don't
want to gain weight you can just throw it
up" and they don't mean it seriously. And
since they don't know about me being
bulimic, I can't really show them that it
hurts when they say things like that. So
how did you do it?

Try telling them that you had a relative
that had an eating disorder. And that it
hurts you when they say stuff like that.
Thats all they need to know.

Hi Posted: 01-30-06 02:09am
I only told who I had to tell......Not
sure if I am going to tell my best friends
or not. I don't really see a reason for
it. My boyfriend knows, and my doctor
knows.....I don't know how much "support"
my friends can offer.....
Think about this.....
Do they really need to know?? Unless you
think there is actually something that
they can do to help you....There is not
really a reason.
People always say that you need to
surround yourself with as much support as
possible....I don't know.....I feel
disgusting, and I don't want others, that
don't know much about this disease forming
opinions.
I have the best friends in the world...But
I still don't think that they will
understand....Nor do I really know how to
explain it....And I don't want to even
think that they look at me differently for
lack of knowledge. It is not neccessary
to add that stress to my life.
I will get better...And I don't want to
get better and know that they are maybe
still wondering if I am still doing it, or
thinking about how crazy I am. I am
afraid that I might get better, and then
maybe regret ever telling them in the
first place. I would rather just leave
them out of it.
Just think about it. I am not trying to
discourage you....

If they are that insensative they are
insensative people. I know that sounds
weird but they really sound like they are
not cool at all. I did not even tell my
sister who bent over backwards when one of
her close friends had an eating disorder
to try to help her. I really would not
tell them. A doctor, a counselor,
or your mom or sister, but definately
telling them probably would not go over
that well. That's my 10 cents.
