Ok I self-harm, sometimes cut, sometimes
scratch, etc. Does anyone have any ideas
on how I can stop, or at least what can
help. Because I really want to stop and
it's really frustrating.

I have never cut myself but I have had
some abuse/trauma from my childhood and
know that sometimes your actions later on
are you just finding a way to express the
hurt, pain & anger you have inside
bcause of what happened to you.
You may do this bcause of something that
happened to you (& you don't
realize/remember what happened), something
major that happened to you recently or
that life is so horrible for you that you
need a way to get it out (cutting,
etc,).
In any case, you've got to express and get
out all your hurts, pains, frustrations
(cutting doesn't do this, it's like making
you pay for your pain when nothing bad
that happened to you was ever your fault)
you have to get it all out, whatever it
is. You have to find a caring,
understanding counselor that you can tell
everything to; this is the only way the
healing process can begin.
My life was such hell & only after I
started seeing this christian counselor
that my life seriously starting turning
around. I told her everything, we prayed
at each session & she gave me
techniques to use to help me heal as
well.
I think christian counselors are better
& more helpful also. Doing this will
finally allow you to heal. Please come
back & tell me what you think & if
you've found a counselor &/or help.

Ya I am going to a christian cousellor. I
actually ahevn't cut for the past 5 days.
And ya last may I got sexually assulted so
ya that's proubaly why i'm cutting.

Hello I was a self harmer for years and
found a great way to stop myself cutting
was to wear an elastic band round my arm.
Every time I feel the need to cut id snap
my wrist with the band and it really
helped me get over it in time.

Well done, 5 days is really good without
self harming. Take it a day at a time
and remember to take care of youreself and
reward youreself when another week passes.

Hey, I used to self harm a lot. I didn't
acctually realise I had a problem, I was
to absorbed in my own depression. I only
decided to stop because it was upsetting
my friends too much. I found it really
hard. I would get really edgy and stuff.
But I refused to give in to myself and
didn't do it. I would have really bad
night mares about cutting myself up and
even killing my friends! It was a really
traumatic time but was deffinatly worth
it. I havn't cut myself since the day I
said i'd stop. I'm very proud of myself
and I never feel the need to anymore.
It's gonna be realy hard you just got to
have the will power. Don't give in and
good luck!

Just as long u dont get out of hand it is
a gd way of releasing ur feelings.
What u need to know about cutting is that
you do it for two reasons
it creats impulses that make u feel better
it is a way of displaying the fact that u
are upset and that u are feeling alone and
noone else can see ur feelings and it
helps to show it in this way
if u do want to give up then here are some
tips from when I did
1) instead of cutting use ice on wherever
u normally cut and hold it there it
can hurt more then cutting and it will
have the same affect as cutting but it
wont scar u.
2) think about the consequences of cutting
if ever u do give up I have been close to
relapsing back into cutting and u just
have to say to urself thats what u might
feel like doing but u have stopped for a
long time and u'll feel better later
3) when I said about showing people about
ur feelings by cutting it may be helpful
to write a diary with ur feelings just
quick stuff off the top of ur head it
doesnt have to be poems but sometimes they
may help
send me a personal message if u do decide
to give up and ill give u support as u go.
Or if u just need someone to relay your
feelings too im going thru the same things
as u

then its not so bad

also cbt or cognitive behavioural therapy
can help you sort out the way you deal
with feeling down it helped me to stop
cutting ask ur doctor
