Q: Depo Shot = Low Sex Drive?

I have been on the depo shot since 6 weeks after my baby was born. This was approx. 1 1/2 years ago. Ever since he was born I have had pretty much no sex drive. It's been very frustrating to me. I kept wondering if it was from stress of having a new baby or something else, but I was recently on a forum where ladies where talking about the shot and how some of them had a decreased sex drive from it. Now i'm wondering if switching to the pill would help increase my drive. Any thoughts?

Depo
I hated depo. I had no sex drive and bled all the time. I wasn't happy or depressed, just there. I was on it for a year and gained a bunch of weight to.

I went to the gyno yesterday and went to lutera and I can’t wait to start using it. I wanted to let you know I found out some interesting information about depo provera. I informed her that I lost my sex drive, then even after I stopped taking depo I could never seem to get wet before sex and would have to use lubrication. The dotor told me that depo is the only birth control that only really has progesterone in it and that estrogen is responsible for making you want sex and making your body in the mood and ready for it. So the dryness I had and lack of sex drive was due to the depo I was so happy to find out that there wasn’t anything wrong with me. She said the lutera(a form of alesse) will add more estrogen so i’ll be better off. I just wanted to share this with you. So depo is horrible! She also said people on depo need to use lubrication!

Wow!
Wow I can't believe that someone is experiencing the low sex drive as well. I've been on depo for 2 years... And for the past year or more- I have had zero sex drive. And it isn't because of disease, or depression or anything. So the only thing I can think to blame it on is the depo. I'm not sure though; but i'm actually going to talk to my doctor about switching to a pill; although my experiences with those have never gone well... Depression and mood changes :-\

I went through a period of low sex drive while I was on depo - but it came back with a vengence really quick lol. Sorry if that's too much info. :)

depo, like any medicine, can have a number of side effects that are different from person to person. The side effects might never show up or they could show up and last only a short amount of time, etc.

I'm sorry you all experienced this on depo.

I also gained weight on depo (about 15 pounds), but looking back I was eating junk and eating a lot more than I should have been eating. It has been difficult for me to lose the weight, but with regular exericse and trying to eat a low fat diet i've been losing about 2 pounds a week for the past three weeks. It's really hard though, a lot harder than I remember from when I wasn't on depo.
