Help!!
Posted: 01-20-06 14:01pm

Hi everybody.
Im using my older sisters name(babaycakes) because I dont want to make a new name. Im not preggo or anything and im 15 1/2 and my sister is 18 and she thinks she might be preggo but I was wondering,
i dont get along wiff my parents and my step dad is a perv. And my sister wanted to get emancipated when she was 16 but she changed her mind and I really want to get emancipated. Does anyone know anything because I would like to know. My mom wont ever sign any papers. Do parents have to sign a legal document when you get emancipated? Or can you get emancipated without them signing anything?
I want out!!!

I don't really know anything about emancipation, especially in the states...Just what I saw on the tv show one tree hill where one of the characters got emancipated, he needed both (i am pretty sure it was both) parents signatures. I am not sure you would need your step dads as he isn't your biological father unless he legally adopted you. Anyways there are always ways around things. I would think your best bet is talk to a lawyer and get some legal advice...If you can't talk to a lawyer directly then a trusted knowledgeable adult could probably help you out.

Can someone tell me what all this means, im not exactly getting this?
Verified by the petitioner--?? That the minor willingly lives apart from his parents or legal guardian with the consent or acquiescence of his parents or legal guardian;---does that mean im going to have to have my parents sign something or something like it? My mom or my step dad wont ever in a million years sign anything to let me get emancipated. Im screwed. I will be stuck here forever and my parents want to move me away from everything here. I want out after im 16 and I just cant leave...What should I do? I cant talk to my mom cuz she will say nooo never and she wont let anything happen

Emancipation is nothing but the state saying at an age under 18 you can be looked at as a legal adult. U have to be at least 15 I think to get it done. It's really expensive like a thousand dollars because of all the paper work that has to be done. It's not as simple as people make it out to be. And ur parents can kick you out once ur emacipated and theres nothing you can do about it.
I know the law in louisiana is if u have a baby and u are under the age of 18 u become legally emavipated. But dont go out and get urself pregnant now. You should really think all this threw before you do anything or try to do something.

haha she will be pregnant in a month..

Well im not much about going against someones decision..But the whole emancipation deal seems really stupid...She is 15 her and her boyfriend dont love each other its called lust...She needs to respect her mom/step dad maybe the reason they are strick is because they love her..And care..Whereas she doesnt appreciate that..I actually feel sorry for her parents...But I wish her luck with her dumb mistake she is making..The real world isnt easy...

Babaycakes ..You say you have a car and a job lined up...Well I hope you know at 15 you are going to only be able to have a part-time job..How will you pay for insurance and the price-of-living ...With a part-time job?Oh yeah and not to mention gas..

Sweety I was 15 and 16 living on my own with the father of my baby who is a complete skeeze... I had my own car... My own place to stay and a job. I got so much help tho... The car wasnt in my name cause you have to be 18 to legally have something in your name. My boyfriends dad paid the insurance just so we could have a car to go to work. And I payed most of the bills with my lousy 200$ check a week. That may seem like alot but when u have bills and food to worry about then it turns to just scrap change. Trust me I was just like you. But I had my moms support on what I did. I wasnt doing it to rebel or any of that I wanted to be an adult. I wanted to see what it was like to be a " grown up " lol and play house and trust me it sucked.... Stay a child as long as you can. I'm 17 now and 6 months pregnant and still wish I could go back and not have to grow up so fast.

Maybe you guys could try family counselling to work things out? Because trust me its not easy living on your own. I have been on my own since I was 15, and it was not fun at all. Mind you I never had a choice really. So my suggestion to you would be to try to get family counselling...You never know it might help.
