Hi, I have posted things in many categories here. I worry a lot about my health. Anyhow, I sometimes get a sharp shooting pain in my head usually in the back or only on one side that lasts for about 5 seconds and gos. It is so intense though. Anyone know what I am talking about?

Extremely eHealthy
I have had these sort of pains for years, usually when very stresse, but sometimes oddly when the stressful situation has gone or been reduced; it's like I have been holding myself so tight due to the situation that when I release all that tension. Well something has to give & I get similar pains to what you describe.

My impression is that you're a single mum with prehaps not alot of immediate support & frankly I have no idea how single mums cope, the stress & responsibility of being a parent is enormous & naturally increases our worry about our own health.

One other thing though>>>> is there anything knew (plant, powder, perfume, soap, anything) at home or elsewhere thatyou might be allergic to, because allergies can cause many & varied symptoms, they're also a real pain because as they can be airborn they can be hard to locate much less do anything about.

I wouldnt worry about it I get them sometimes to, plus I know other people who get them it could be anxiety. But if it gets worse then go see a doctor.

New
I was brought to this site from a search engine and I am kind of relieved that this sharp pain could be related to anxiety. I tend to think the worst about things like this. I have been getting them for a couple weeks now and like you all have said they are really quick and change location. Does anyone know if this is a medical fact that it can be caused by stress? I am definitely stressed lately so it does make sense. My family is living with my mother while our house is built, husband just had surgery etc. Etc...
Thanks in advance for any info or site links regarding this.

Well
Well, I know that stress can turn your body and flip your mind competely around. The sharp pains you get can be caused by that. I have the same sharp pains, not as much anymore but lately it hasnt been to great. I've had these pains last 15-20 seconds rather then 5. As i'm posting this its because I woke up out of bed and was in total fear because I had a wierd pressure pain that made me dizzy and faint for about 15-20 seconds. My #1 thing to tell you is to see a neurologist. He will tell if you if its a very bad issue or simply stress/anxiety/tension. Its good to talk to them they reinforce the fact you aren't terminally ill.

Wow! I Have the Same Thing!!!
Hi, I totally understand what your feeling. I typically get them on one side, usually out of the clear blue when I turn my head. It knocked me on my butt one time, the pain was intense, but only lasting for a couple seconds.. Does anyone feel a numb sensation afterwards? It sometimes feels like i'm temperally paralyzed on the side of my head, my mouth and every thing goes numb. I can't turn my head for atleast a minute after it happens, I have to turn my whole body, or it will happen again. It's really strange, and it goes away as quickly as it comes on. I never asked the doctor about it, I figured they would think I was nuts.. I never knew other people had this happen. Well if anyone knows what causes this, please share your info. Cause i'm clueless, iv'e had this happen for years, and it doesn't seem to happen to often, so I never thought of disgussing it. Does it feel like a shock wave in your head? Like shooting from the back to the front? Almost like a nerve is shorting out? If so, I have the exact same thing..

Hi, I posted the last message, and mine doesn't seem to be stress related, I have not been under any stress when this happens. So I don't think that is always true.

Wow!!!
It is really helpful to see that so many people are alike all over. I do think I notice I get it with stress. I have severe anxiety. I think everyone's body handles stress differently.

I get similar pains. They are really intense and normally on one side of my head, at the front or back, and swaps around each headache, though most are on the front left side. I have been getting them for about 6 months. I don't think mine are related to strees or anxiety as i'm still getting them lots and i'm on holiday and have been for 2 months (being a university student is great) and i'm a pretty relaxed person in general. The pain is terrible (i'd rate it between 7 and 9 on a 1-10 scale). I saw a neurologist and they think it could be migraines and I am now trying migraine medication though I haven't been on it long enough to see if it is working.

Well, I know from doing research that have bi-lateral headache pains/pressure is from tension/muscle/back issues.

Migraines generally are just instense pain.

Just a Thought
I've suffered from migraine for many years. For those who have migraine attacks, there are alot of triggers.Stress,sunlight,foods.This may or may not be the case with the post or replies.
I suggest talk to a doctor if you continue to have problems.Symptoms can come and go.There are headache clinics, there are migraine specialist.Look up migraine and check the information.
By the way, migraines are not just intense pain.Migraine is a disease.A neurological disease and needs to be respected as such. Not that I'm saying this is the case, but migraine itself is a real disease.
But if you continue to have problems, see a doctor.

Mine's Different
Mine is strange. For the past few weeks I have been experiencing a type of "electric shock" through my brain (right side) and it lasts for about 10 seconds then goes away. When this happens it's so painfull that I can feel asif I go stiff all over for a while. Don't know why. Don't know what triggers it either. Any ideas?

Don't Ignore Your Symptoms.
First, symptoms that continue, you should see a doctor.Just out of curious,do you take over the counter med for headaches.Did you know you can get rebound headaches.
Rebound, you are actually getting headaches from the medicine. But when you are having continued problems, seek help.A GP may want to try abortive med or tests or refer you to a specialist.

Pain inthe back of the head, it is a sign of Occipital Neuralgia
Please read the information link below.
http://This link has been removed/NIH/NINDS/NINDS-294.htm

This will help you to understand what the signs are. When it induces, just rest and heat source applied will be helpful as well.
I had this pain and what I typicall do is take a hot bubble bath, apply a heat pad where the pain is, drink something soothing.

Just to inform you...
Pain in your head could be due to a heart problem, not trying to worry you but, I have a blood pressure problem called Orthostatic Intolerance, and it gives me pretty bad migraines, but I have another problem that I'm not sure of yet. I used to have a headache that didn't go away for eighteen months until I started taking a medication for my problem. It went away for a couple of months, then shortly came back, except this time it came back really short but intense, like a clustered headache. If you have any problems with constant headaches, don't ignore it, consult a doctor immediately. They might think you're crazy, but it just takes the right doctor to diagnose it. I waited for almost two years to find mine. Be patient & don't ever give up!

Hi,
I get it when I wash my hair and go outside and that particular part of the head gets a cold wind draft, or if I sit in an air conditioned room with my hair wet? damp or if I go to sleep with my hair wet. I always try to avoid all of the above.

Sharp pains.
i get sharp pains across my head all the time and it is so painful, im so glad im not alone though. Sometimes, behind my eye will ache, hard to describe what it feels like... sort of, really tight, and if i tilt my head forwards, the whole top of mi head gets really tight, and my nose feels quite blocked? But when i bring my head up its only my eye that hurts. We went to the opticians, and they said that my eyes are fine.. :\ any suggestions?
