Hello,
i am a 20 year old woman who has had seizures since I was about 4 years old
my docs arent sure if its from the head injury I had or if I was just born with it
all the meds I have been on have not helped it
i have had all the tests from mri eeg(sleep deprived and ambulatory)cat and so on
only 3 have shown an abnormality in my brain
why when it shows some times that it wont show other times like there is nothing there?

Why havent any med stopped them?

Are there any other things I can do to stop it?

Also, as I am sitting here right now, I have severe swollen feet and ankles, is this normal for my meds? Dilantin and trileptal?

I cant even see my ankle or feet bones and it hurts so horribly to walk
i have also been todl I have "pseudo seizures" and this term has been explained to me several different ways-one being that I fake them, another being that they are stress induced so on and so forth
as if they are not real
so my question t othem is always this- faked? As if I like having to spend more than half my life in a hosp that my own home, as if I like being stuck with needles 3 times a week to try to control this, not to mention how many times im stuck when I have to go to the hosp, as if I like having to take so many meds and then being even more sick with the side affects from them, well, you get the point
and then stress induced?--ok now this really doesnt make sense because I dont know any 3/4 year old that has that much stress in their life to start having seizures
so if all this comes down to the seizures "not being real" then why the medication for them?

Malpractice?

False abnormal results on the tests?
Make any sense to anyone out there please let me know
write me back because I need help with this
thanks a million :d

Question of My Own!
Shocked Crying or Very sad I am so sorry to hear your delema!!! I am ignorant of this condition except the very basics. I am trying to do some reserch myself as my brother has suffered some grand mal seizures over the years. A bad marrage and the stress related to it might have had something to do with it. How ever they are seperated now and he seems so much happier and allert. When he had his first seizure he was enrolled in a computer course where he me his intended. It was discribed to me and is a classic textbook grand mal. The doctors, for some reason, have associated it to drinking the night before. He has quit drinking for years now and has had a few more since the first one. I know this is pitiful compared to what you are suffering but I read somewhere that computers can induce seizures. He was working on one when he had his first and the last one cost him a large piece of his tongue. It grew back but it was pretty gross. They had purchased a computer prior to this. I have tried to tell him that I think he should maybe avoid computers but he has been thinking about getting one and he lives alone. Is there any information that you have come across in your recearch that might help me to convince him to not to get one. I am afraid he will suffer one of his seizures while he is alone with no one to help.

I'm Sorry!
I feel your confusion. I hate the answer from the doctor maybe, maybe not. I am an analyzer anyways. So I am constantly trying to reason out why at 32 I started having seizures. I've heard stress, lack of sleep, etc., or you just have it. My main question all the time is if it's my lifestyle shouldn't I be trying to change it, rather than medicate it. Maybe I need a nanny and not dilantin! I have 5 boys and my hubby is traveling all the time.
If it is this pseudo thing, why don't they take you off the drugs?!!! Like you said at 4!!! Give me a break!! I feel for you so much.
Your ankles are swollen? I have never heard of that as a side affect. What does your doctor say about that? Maybe you need a new doctor. Do you feel rushed by him when your there? I had one like that and swithched and feel thank-ful that at least he listens to me even if the answer is maybe, maybe not.
Good luck, angie

Medication Sucks
Hi

i am 37 years old and had my first seizure at 33. I also swapped doctors because he didnt listen to me. Although I dont always like what my new doctor tells me I feel she listens and understand what I am going through.

My question (to save my sanity) is there any medication that makes you feel normal. All medication seems to dull my senses, I cant think fast or logically. The medication stops the seizures, but at the cost of my mind, I dont know what is worse.

Is anyone else feeling this way?
