Teen Pregnancy?
Posted: 01-20-06 10:16am

I've recently had a bad case of mono, and still have it however. I had jaundice due to my hepatitis and I was in bed for 3 weeks. I used to take the pill prior to mono however, had to go off it because of the illness. I've recently started having sex with my boyfriend and haven't gotten my period yet, and its been 31 days since the beginning of my last period. I did take 2 birth control pills last saturday. I took them 12 hours apart since I heard it has the same effect as the morning after pill. Also, I noticed today that i've lost 4 pounds in 2 days. I don't know if this can relate to anything but if anyone has any advice of info for me that would be great.

My only advice would be, if you are asking if you could be pregnant, take a pregnancy test.

You loose weight while having mono

as for taking the pill during mono I dont know who told you not but you can take b/c while having a bout of mono, I hope you know mono is contagious and just by having sex/kissing you have placed your fiance at risk for getting it.

I have had mono 3 times and its not a joke, the last time I had it my spleen was enlarged and thank god it didnt rupture or else my immune system would have been caca and I would have needed surgery to have it removed. Basically if you believe you are pregnant do a home pregnancy test and be carful because mono does come back and putting ur body under this much stress could make it come back alot worse!

Take care

Ack! I feel for you, I had mono a few months before I got pregnant...It's awful! Mine was a rare case where both my spleen and liver enlarged (usually only one does) so I had some severe pains for a while and couldn't eat anything but broth, and even that made me sick. I lost a lot of weight, haha and I looked great and then I got preggerz...Oh well. Anyways i'd take a home pregnancy test to find out if you are and if it comes out negative wait a week or so and then go to your doctor and get a blood test done. If you are pregnant I would talk to your doctor, because mononucleosis puts the body under a great ammount of stress and falling pregnant while you still have it might not be so great for the baby. I don't know, so I would talk to your doctor. I know I talked to mine when I got pregnant because I was still worried that maybe the virus had not completely left my body...But he said everything should be okay since it had been a couple months since I started feeling better. Good luck! And hope you recover fastly!

Ya my mono was the same as yours, both my liver and splee enlangered and I had hepatitis in my liver, as I said before. I heard it was harder to get pregnant while sick, is this true? Also since my body was and still is under so much stress could that be why my period is late?
Thanks for your comments

yes stress can cause you to miss your period...But in your case I would take a hpt or get a blood test done..Maybe you missing your period also has something to do with your sickness...But if I were you I think I would go to the doctor and get everything checked out again...Either your pregnant or something else is wrong..

Yes, I am taking a pregnancy test tomorrow because i'm sick of this waiting game. However something I find extremly weird is that I can feel my period is right there. I have every sign as I usually do for my period, cramps, back pain, moodiness and thirst just to name a few. But nothing has come... And i've felt like this since last week and that would have only been 2 weeks after I got pregnant and it's not possible to tell signs then...Right?

Many of these girls say they have the same symptoms as with period coming, when they are indeed pregnant

i myself never had any signs my period was coming until it came. But I am one of those pple who knows when I ovulate from the signs and pains I have.

Good luck--oh, and sometimes it takes up to 3 weeks after missed period to get positive on hpt.

Take care of you, extra special care, mono is no fun. It ran around my house for over a year, and I got it at 40. Had never had it before. Went from kid to kid and back to kid again for over a year. No fun-- rest--lots of clear fluids.

Thanks for your help.
But if I was pregnant would I need be experiencing symptoms such as frequent urination, increase in appetite, weird food cravings, nausea and etc? I haven't experienced any of that and if anything my appetite has only decreased. I also have heard and read from many different women that they noticed an increase in tiredness and need to sleep when they were pregnant. I haven't suffered that at all since i've been sick with mono. If anything I feel better. Is there good possibility that my body has just been under so much stress with being sick and being on the pill and such that my period is just delayed?
Sorry but as you can tell i'm extremly worried and plan to take a pregnancy test today.

Yes it could be from missing your pills, and it could also be from the stress, or from the sickness of mono itself. All these things are a possibility.
