Q: Metformin/clomid And Ttc???

Hi friends,

i went to see my gyn doc on 19/01/2006, since I have not got my period or a positive urine test for pregnancy. He asked me to start cycle #2 of clomid. This time he has added metformin for 4 weeks.

My medications:
metformin - 1500g daily for 4 weeks (3 x 500g pill)
clomid - 50g daily from day 2 to day 6 of period (1 x 50g pill)
dhaphagus - 20g daily from 19/01/2006 to 23/01/2005 (2 x 10g pill)

he also told me that even if I was pregnant, the medicines have no bad effect on the baby. He told me to take the medicines and the dhaphagus is to jump start my period. I should get my period within a week of stopping the dhaphagus medicine and then carry on with clomid. I should start counting from the first day the period comes to the 12 th day and go back for an ultrascan on the 12th day itself. The scan could tell whether I am ovulating and when r my fertile days to try for baby.

But if the period didn't come within the week, I should go back and see him, cos I could be pregnant or the medicine is not working for me and he would give me something stronger.

My question:
has anyone taken clomid and metformin together and has become pregnant immediately or it's still a waiting game.

What are the side effects of this medications that I am taking right now?

Please someone respond. Thanks in advance!

It look like a cocktail of concoctions. There are some side effects to take note of. I am taking my 2nd cycle of clomid and feel like caca half the time. Giddy, headaches, moody and depressed. Sometimes, I just wante to give up and just go for adoption. There are many homeless children out there.

Gal, there are 2 things you can do.
1) are you confortable with your gynea? Do you need a second opinon? Perhaps you could go to one who is reputable for a 2nd opinon.
2) trust your gynea and eat all the concoctions he gave. Dutifully. You need to trust that he can help you to conceive.

Btw, I still don't quite get it...Why didn't your gynea do a scan for you to see if you are preg. ? By now, should be able to see the sag.
Let me know how you are doing...

He told me that there was no point in doing the scan cos the hpt is negative. So he has given me the duphagus to trigger my period. I should take it for 5 days and after which I should get my period within one week. If I dun it could be becoz I am pregnant or the medicine is not working for me. He would do a scan then to confirm things. But he also tolf me that the period trigger medicine has no side effects on the baby/foetus even if I were to be pregnant. Even the metformin he gave seems to help in carrying the baby and reducing the risk of miscarriage.

So I hope for the best and a healthy baby soon. How is ur medication going on?

Ok, here goes my story continuation,

i started the duphaston (pill to trigger period) on 19/1/06 and ended the last pill on 23/1/06.

Taking that pill as well as metformin for the first time, I must say..... I hate the metformin.

I mean, I tried my first cycle on clomid with the duphaston and I was just having little cramps on and off and some headaches and definitely I was encountering blurred vision. I dun wear glasses, but this was causing me alittle vision blurrness.

But when I started the cycle #2 with metformin, there is alot to complain but I am putting it up with that medicine becoz I badly want to be a mummy soon. That is the only thing pushing me to continue taking the metformin.

It has caused me diarrhoea, cramps, bad headaches, giddy feelings, depressed, and eeehhhhhhhhhhh.... Feeling bloated, hungry but can't eat much, feeling like choking or out of breath at times, feel like throwing up just to clear the throat's passageway.

I am not trying to frighten anyone here thinking of taking the medicine. But just telling what I am going through...

Remember each of us r different. Maybe I am not comfortable with this medicine. Or my body is still trying to get used to the medicine. Each of us have different body conditions. So bear with me, when I complain.

Thanks!

Great, I started my period yesterday 28-1-2006.
I am starting 2nd cycle of clomid today 29-1-2006.

I should be seeing the doctor on day 12 which is 8-2-2006. So let's see how things work in for me. I hope this is the cycle that I hit jackpot.

Wish me luck!

Hi there,

each time when we passed thru the cycle, we are expecting a magical mircale to happen to us...But each time, we waited in anxiety and with patience and then nothing happened. I am so bloody fed-up...Sometimes just want to give up.

I am waiting for my ovulation, probably these couple of days. Do you get heachach and hot flashes when you ovulate. I was feeling bad yesterday, but mucus is dry...Hence no yet.

All the best and keep me posted.

I don't understand what the doctor has you on the metiformin for. Are you insulin restaint? You may be having the upset stomach and cramps because of the food you are eating. If you are eating alot of carbs the medicines will cause this. I took me forever to get used to that I actually have a plamlet on what you should eat while taking it to help with the upset stomach. I have been on the medifromin for a while now and I am taking 1600mg a day and I have been trying to concieve fort wo months so far no luck. I know it helps you ovulate so that is a plus for me. Best of wishes

X-ray
I am not sure about the impact of having a x ray while I am trying for a baby. I went to the dentist cos of a tooth problem and he took an x ray. Anyone knows that it will reduce the chances of me getting preg. I am waiting for my period. About 10 more days to go....Please advise

A dental x-ray shouldn't have any impact. They actually say now that pregnant women can get dental x-rays done while pregnant. I don't think I would go that far but i'm sure you are fine.

Oh it was a disaster. I had multiple eggs. But either they were too small or too big. My big one is about 27mm on the right ovary and the other small ones are 9mm on the right as well as the left. So the doc said that the chances are very lean and that I won't ovulate this month with these type of egg measurement. The egg follicles should measure between 16 to 20mm according to the doctor. So he told me to wait for my mensus to start clomid cycle #3. But for this cycle the doc has given me an increase in clomid dosage from 50mg to 100mg. I was very disappointed. Well, now just wait n wait for the stupid period.

Hey, I don't quite understand about the big eggs. Do you feel that you have ovulated? My doc said that you will ovulate if eggs are mature and around 20mm. You can still try, right? A slim chance is also a chance. Did the doc give you medication for you to start your period?

I understand how you feel. I think my period is coming next week :(

According to the doc, the egg follicles' length are not in the range of 16 to 20mm long. Mine are either too big or too small. So he asked me to wait for my mensus to start then take the increased clomid. Meanwhile to continue to take metformin, which also helps me to loose some weight.

Though the doctor knows that I won't ovulate this month, when asked for pills to start my period, he asked me to wait and see. I have to wait atleast one week past my expected mensus date to check for pregnancy before he can give me the medicine to start my period.

But if I get my mensus naturally, it would be better and that means I have ovulated. So again another month of waiting n sighing...

Don't worry dear. I think it is better not to take too much medication. I truly understand the whole anxiety of waiting. My breast are a bit sore, but too scare to check cos I don;t want to be disappointed. So, I am just gonna wait.
