Hi I wondered if any one can relate to the way im feeling at the moment. Im a 22 year old female and really should not be thinking or feeling the way I do at the moment. I have been told I have anxiety, but I just dont know why I feel like this. I have lots of great friends, a great boyfriend, great family, good job, and basically there is no reason why I should feel like this!! But the way it seems to effect me is that I feel like there is something physically wrong with me. I seem to have become obsessed with my heartbeat, and I keep thinking that bad things are going to happen to me like im going to have a heart attack. I get palpitations, when ever I lie down I can feel my heart and I sometimes have skipped heartbeats and fluttery feelings in my chest. My counsellor said that this happens beacuse of adrenaline going to your heart but I dont seem to have been panicking as much lately, yet I am getting them more than I used to. I have been suffering with anxiety on and off since I was 19, due to an abusive boyfriend. We split up 3 years ago and the anxiety came back in full swing when I met my new boyfriend. I seem to get different symptoms relating to my anxiety through a matter of routine these days. I get all sorts of things like numbenss and tingling in my hands and side of my face. I know these are all symptoms of anxiety but I cant help thinking that there is definately summat up with me. I'm just sick of feeling like this now it seems to have developed into routine and obsession and I cant ever imagine waking up in morning and not having to analyse my anxiety in my mind. Help!!

You Are Not Alone, I Know How You Feel
I have similar fears and anxiety and im only a few years older than you. If you think your doctor is missing something you could get a second opinion from another doctor. If you think its all in your head then all you can do is find a way to accept your situation and live life the best you can. Im sorry I dont have any great advice for you, I havent found any answers myself I just wanted you to know that your not alone in this.

I have the exact same problems. Whats worse is I make my boyfriend suffer by keeping him up until all hours of the night. I went to the er a few days ago and they ran a bunch of test (ekg, urine, heartrate) and everything checked out. What worries me is that the sysmptoms set in wuite recently and they have become acute. I can sleep, hell its 4 in the morning and im posting this b/c everytime I lay down to sleep I feel myself doze off and then immdeiately wake my self up. I have a constant fear that im not going to wake up in the morning. Its to the point where im not trying to wake myself up, my body does it naturaly. I feel like im totaly loosing it

Sounds like panic disorder which I am finally getting over thanks to the skills I learned in my cbt group. Pick up a copy of been there, done that? Do this! By sam obitz and start doing the tea form exercise and you will learn how keep from going into a panic cycle over physical symptoms that are not dangerous. You just have to learn how to train your brain to interupt the panic cycle that makes the symptoms worse. If you can afford it join a cbt group too. Good luck and realize you can get better. I feel better that I have in years now.

Yes I second johnr's thoughts on the obitz book! It's a relatively inexpensive way to help yourself. And just remember, resentment is at the cause of all of your anxieties. I have learned this the hard way. If you find a way to let go of the resentment, many other things clear up. That's why I am gratefu to the sam obitz book.

I know exactly how you feel, im a 23 year old female, and I am completely obssessed with my pulse rate. It always goes fast or sometimes slow. My doctor had prescribe me 50mg of toprol and .50 of alprazolams. There are days when I wake up feeling great and other days I wake up feeling like crap. Its just a matter of controlling your mind. Your mind controls your whole body and you have the power to do so. I get high blood pressure from worrying so much as well. It really does suck. But know that your not the only ones who are suffering from this disorder.

Well...
The more you enslave yourself to doctors, the more entrenched you become in dependency. As a society, we're really turning them into gods.

Leanr to meditate, not like some indian yogi, but just bringing stillness to yourself and quit trying to distract yourself with too many pills, alcohol, and the like.

It does sound like panic disorder which I have and am just now beginning treatment for. I just try to control my breathing as best I can and really try not to think about it because sometimes just the fear of another attack can bring one on. I think maybe you need something for anxiety. If your doctor does not take you seriously find a new one. I have had some that don't and it's an awful feeling.

what kind of treatment are you getting? One of the best panic disorders in the country is in socal and that is where I went for my group. I highly recommend cbt for panic, anxiety and depression as it is turning my life around. If you can't afford a cbt group pick up a copy of been there, done that? Do this! By sam obitz and start doing the tea form exercise and you will learn how keep from going into a panic cycle over physical symptoms that are not dangerous. This is one of the two books we used in my group. Take care and know you can get better if you learn to think more objectively about your symptoms through the cbt exercises.

Anxiety Plus a Ton More
I am a 22 year old female. I have a great job, wonderful boyfriend and a sturdy family life. On and off for the past 2 years I have been experiecing a slew of symptoms that no doctor can put together into any tangible diagnosis. I chronically suffer from pain in my left shoulder and neck to start, but from time to time I get a terrible "knot" like feeling under my left rib. When this occurs, I deal with terrible anxiety and tend to become very obsessive with my how fast my heart is beating at all times.
On top of that, when this "knot" like feeling happens, I wake up with a fluttery feeling in the general area of the "knot" and experience what I feel is a strange breathing pattern until I can manage to even myself out.
I have had many conventional tests done and nothing is conclusive. If anyone has advice on the matter it would be greatly appriciated.

Physically Distressed
I have several symptoms...primarily those you listed;however, i will wake up and my head will be buzzing, my outer limbs have been numb and cold, and i believe that it is something physical...i do not buy that it is "panic disorder." It must be something that has yet to be discovered. I don't believe that doctors have this pinned correctly. I don't have substantive proof; I don't ever remember being psychologically disturbed or depressed enough to believe that i suffer from psychological disorders. I hope some physician figures out what causes this to happen. It could be some undiscovered venereal disease or circulation problem. My body has a hard time maintaining temperature control and "homeostasis." Sometimes I have to "discharge" both urine and fecal matter with a sense of urgency. I will feel weak, a little nausea, sometimes vertigo without warning. It might take a half hour to an hour to return to a normal feeling again. I hope I can find a doctor who might be able to help me...maybe there is one or two out there looking for us. Let me know what you think!!!

I guess a good questions to ask yourself, do the attacks ever happen on vacation or when you are having a really great time, if the answer is no then you do not have any medical issues. This is kind of like ghosts only come out at night and everyone gets more scared of creepy things at night. If there really creepy things they would come out at daytime also. What i'm trying to say is that if your doc is not worried, you shouldn't either. If you are having the problems during vacation or fun time, you might try a different doc.

Just my Theory and no medical information to back this

I agree, you can find a symptom for the worst disease possible on t he interent. That is why medical students think that they are dying constantly becasue they have the information being shoved in their face constantly.
