Q: Wegener's Disease Or Goodpasture's Prognosis

Hello everybody,

my brother is in the hospital right now. He's been there for a week already. He has not been formally diagnosed yet but they suspect either goodpasture's syndrome or wegener's disease. He was rushed to the er because his lungs were bleeding and his heart was working really slow.

They have replaced the plasma with new plasma without the antibodies that his body was producing. But the doctors said that his body is again producing the antibodies so they will stop replacing that. He is also using a machine to breathe. When they try to let him breathe by himself his lungs want to collapse.

Has anyone had any experience like this? What chances does he have to get better?

Is there any nontraditional method we could try to help him recover?

Thanks for any info,

zoraya :(
