I also have problem with being unable to
burp, I get severe gas pains that make me
nauseated, and the pain is everywhere. In
my sternum, under my ribcage, up to my
shoulders etc. The only thing that I've
found helps is laying down with a heating
pad on my stomach although it takes a long
time sometimes a couple of hours. I still
don't burp but the gas seems to move down
so I can fart. This an everyday battle, I
feel the best in the morning and the gas
gets progressively worse throughout the
day, untill after dinner I have to lay
down with the heating pad. Then the cycle
begins all over again the following day.

My name is keith, i'm 20 years old and i
too am a non-burper. As far as i'm
concerned there's nothing to be done but i
may be able to help those with the
hardcore gas cramps. I've only had a few
of those cramps myself, not often, but i
think i know what you are talking about.
Think about the physics of your trapped
gas and let it go from there, try hunching
over on your knees with your ass up in the
air kinda like doggystyle only your hands
arent holding you up, it works for me.
As for burping i've come to
the realization that its just not for me
which as some of you may know can be a
problem for a beer drinking college kid
like myself. As a novice beer drinker in
high school i would get so full of gas
that i would let out this monstrous burp
followed by the last two beers i drank and
after that it was game on, a pretty
humbling learning experience i must say.
As a got older like now and the past year
i learned that i cold let out that
monstrous burp and not follow it up with
wasted beer by trusting myself and
understanding that that burp was my grace
burp after i let that one go i learned i'd
better not press my luck.
In conclusion, to the
disillusioned beer drinkers, take advice
from this young non-burping college
student who is still learning about
himself with every drink. Be wary of those
first few beers, and practice releasing
the pressure without releasing your brew.
Go in the bathroom at a party or outside,
somewhere secluded and let it out,
besides, if you throw it up, pressure's,
gone and it's back to the festivities.
I've been drinking for 5
years and holding it down for 4

I cannot burp Posted: 07-22-08 19:53pm
I too cannot burp for over 50 years. I
went to see Dr. Peter Kahrilas in Chicago
- who wrote about dysfunction of the burp
reflex. Basically he said if you can
find relief either by sticking your finger
down your throat to release the air or by
lying down then go ahead and do it. There
is some medication that is being studied
but it is not yet available.
I told him that I wished the condition
known as "Dysfunction of the burp reflex"
was publicized in Medical Journals so that
Internist and other doctors where aware of
this condition. It would certainly make
patients feel better when they talk to
their doctors who often say "everyone can
burp" or "you have to be able to release
the air".
Good luck everyone with your "gurgles".
It's nice to know that I am not alone.
My internist put me on Nexium - it helps a
little bit with light meals but it does
not release the air for soda pop or beers.

Hi all, so good to know I'm not alone, I
feel all your pain and will soon find out
what it is, I am on my way to the Doc's
next week as I suffer the exact same
symptoms that you have all described, so
as soon as I find out it should help
others get pointed in the right direction.

I can't believe there are so many people
out there with the same problem! I'm 32
years old and have not been able to burp
for as long as I can remember. My 9 year
old son also has not burped since he was
about 2 years old.
I do not vomit with the excpetion of
extreme illness maybe every 3 years.
The gurgle between the chest & throat
is painful.
I've tried IBS medications that didn't
work.
A gastroenterologist told me to try
working out more. (I'm a 5'9", 120 pound
workout nut!)
GasX helps a very little and very
temporarily
I would love to find a cure for this
annoying & painful feeling of fullnes
& bloating. If there are any doctors
out there reading this.. make yourself a
millionaire & listen to us and find a
cure
Until then, Good Luck to all & please
keep us posted on any break-throughs!

Wow. I can't believe how many replies are
exactly similar. NO ONE I know has this
problem. If I'm out for a couple beers
with friends, I have to duck out to the
bathroom once or twice throughout the nice
and stick fingers down my throat to
release the excess gas.
I too get the gurgles and I stopped
drinking pop altogether because of this, I
guess this is actually a good thing.
I suppose with all the talk of potential
ulcers etc I should go get it checked out
sometime, although I have had this problem
all my life and have just come to accept
that I make extremely loud gagging noises
every weekend while out for drinks . I loved reading
all the other similar people and posts in
this thread.

From experience: Take priolsec or another
prescribed medication to reduce acid and
refrain from food and beverages that
creates gas, like beer and soda, white
beans, etc. If you don't you will
continue to have this issue.
