Bloating excess gas problems

i cant burp either
Another in the same boat...i burp maybe twice a year and they are completely unexpected and unsatissfying. I can't drink soda drinks or beer without suffering huge discomfort and the groaning trickling noises in the top of my throat. I also get severe upper back pain which comes on after a bloat up after 1 can of beer or some foods...I can't seem to relate it to specific food though. I have got more gas down below then anyone else. If im out with friends and have a beer or a vodka limonade, i will be in so much pain from the built up gas that i will often have to go home or stick my fingers down my throat and do the giant chokeing burp.
I dream of being able to naturally burb and feel the relief that normal people do. I have tried forcing and strtching my neck all sorts of ways to no avail....someone has to figure this out!

Another person happy i'm not alone
I have been suffering for as long as i can remember. I am pregnant with my third child and feel miserable. Gas is common in pregnancy and believe me this alone is worse than carrying around a football sized belly under my jumper all day. I cant believe that 8 pages and no one has had any information about what it is or how we can get help for this. Surely there must be a doctor out there gagging to make a name for themselves. i would happily be a test subject if i thought it would help. also been given the same meds, acid reflux stuff blah blah. I hate living with this.

Good to know I am not alone.
It is so funny when I tell people I can't burp, they try to teach me. I am 27 years old and I maybe burped 3 times in my life (not trying they just came out) now it seems any type of burping is just the gurgling noise. I can't have any carbonated beverages and other foods really bother me like salads. Of course as a girl I know it is inappropriate pass gas, but I could be the best farter on the planet. I can probably fart on key if needed to. I fart more than my fiance and at times I see the look of disgust on his face, but I really can't help it. I asked every doctor that I ever went to and they look at me like I am crazy. My mom suggested that it could be from when I was a baby my umbilical cord wrapped around my neck and had to be delivered emergency C-section. Also as a baby I had severe colic. I bought this book online written by a Dr. O Arthur Stennion who studied esophageal disease. I think from what I got out of it (besides a lot of medical terminology) was that a sphincter in our esophagus does not work properly. It doesn't allow air to flow back into the esophagus that is why we can't burp but the gurgle sounds are from some liquid being able to get up there. Also throwing up is hell. I very rarely throw up from being sick, more from getting drunk, but when I do it is a whole body experience. Being graphic, I make these barking sounds, my eyes water, puke comes from my nose, I would rather be stuck on the toilet for hours than experience 10 minutes of throwing up. Oh I for those people who stick there fingers down there throat to get a burp, do you vomit when you do it? I have always had that fear of throwing up therefore I would never do anything to promote it. Thanks for listening my fellow non burpers, we should find a doctor who will study us and find some type of resolution or at least a name for this disease.

llife before the internet a nightmare!!!
I dont know what we did before the internet. As for throwing up when i put my fingers ddown my throat, some times if i have to do it a couple of times i do throw up but most of the time its the air that comes up first and i stop. I feel a massive relief but sometimes it take a little while to stop feeling like you want to throw up.

crazy!
im only 15 haha but i have this same problem and it hasn't really occurred to me until now. I do not know how to burp, i don't think i have ever burped honestly. I've tried getting my friends to teach me but they think im weird. And like the rest of you i get that same annoying gurgling feeling in my throat. It's very uncomfortable and lasts quite a bit. I have so much air built in my stomach and makes me have to fart a lot..embarrassing as it is. And i have to hold it in especially during class than it just makes my stomach make a loud weird noise which is even more embarrassing. Tell me if any of you have found a cure, because i need one A.S.A.P.

Me Too Friendsofpooters!
So aside from having all of the problems everyone has listed on this discussion board, my umbilical cord was also wrapped around my neck and i was delivered c section. correlation or coincidence, who knows. but yes, i am tired of being uncomfortable and embarrassed and wished this problem was more heard of so that someone will do something about it. i never knew so many people suffered from the same issues, but this now gives me hope that someone will try to solve this. oh and after reading aintnocinderella's post i am now worried that this problem will cause me even more discomfort if/when i become pregnant. why is this problem so unheard of?

Me too!
I was looking up my inability to burp, as I am sitting here at 3a.m. because I have been "gurggling" (as I and all my friends have come to call it) for 2 long hours now and everytime I dose off it startles me awake! Ugh*

At least tonight it isn't painful (just bothersome) - sometimes the pressure gets so bad I feel like I barely have enough room to inhale - and other times it progresses into a buildup of acid (but not a typical reflux reaction) and burns until I grow nauseous! It can be awful!

Anyway, I am completely stoked I found this "forum" and I am not the only one out there who suffers with this!
I try and explain it to people all the time and they insist on attempting time and again to coach me how to just force or prompt belch - I convey to them that ignorance is not the case, that I truely honestly am not built to be able to burp! That there is actually something wrong with me - that there is something blocking and trapping these bubbles of air!

It can all be frustrating, the gurgles can get SO terribly loud sometimes and it can be painful and infringe on my life at times.

At the moment, I just want to SLEEP!

Thanks for making me feel like less of a freako, fellow burp-handi-caps =P

Yeah, same here, I'm 17 and it's a real nightmare, shortness of breath if I drink any soft-drinks and then if I try and eat anything, it either comes back up, or just growls at me loudly...

It's a real nightmare! I haven't seen my doctor about it, and reading this, I'm not sure if there is much point in my doing so...

I suppose we just keep complaining..?

Good luck guys Smile

?esophageal sphincter?
when i was younger, i had to get surgery on the flap near my esophagus (esophageal sphincter). and ever since ive never been able to burp. its these small gurgiling noises. now my mom wont let me drink pop because she says that the stuff that makes pop bubbly. [?-forgot what its called]. im constantly told its a serious problem. my friends brother had this problem for awhile, then he had to go to the hospital because air wasnt getting ou up his stomach. i would love to know the reason why i cant burp. my stomach constantly makes noises, and the gurgles in my throat occur all the time.

Inverted Burp
All this time I thought it was just me! I'm amazed that there are so many people out there with the inability to burp. I rarely burp and when I do it barely qualifies as being a "real burp". It's been that way as long as I can remember. I've told my family/friends that I can't burp and their reactions have ranged from "that's weird" to "you better see a doctor". On the rare occasions that I burp, I'm sure to tell my family/friends. They are all so happy and proud of me LOL! I am 31 and have never had any significant health problems. It seems to me that there are varying degrees of severity of this problem. Mine seems mild-moderate compared to most of the stories described. My biggest problem is not the gurggles in my throat (doesn't seem to occur as often as it used to- thank goodness) but the EXTREME bloated feeling I have after I eat/drink. It doesn't seem to matter what or how much I eat/drink however beer and carbonated drinks do bother me alot. I think liquids make me feel worse than food. I feel short of breath and my heart seems to beat faster/harder. It's comforting to finally know that it's not just me and that this condition really does exist.

Wow
I am so happy I found this forum!! I am 26 years old and have been dealing with this for quite a while. However, it seems like it is getting worse everyday! I was having bad stomach pains for the past couple of months. My doctor told me to try cutting out dairy and it did help the stomach pains but not the bloating or the gurgling. I really think that it is all related somehow but i am just not sure how yet. When i wake up in the morning I am fine but by the end of the day i seriously look pregnant! I keep eliminating more and more foods from my diet to see if anything will stop it and nothing is working. Is it worth it to go see a specialist? Does anyone know of any other websites on this? Does anyone have any other tips beside stop drinking cabonated drinks and caffine b/c either one hasnt helped!

removing gall bladder the answer?
After complaining to doc about nausea and bloating and the well known "gurgle"...the doc ran tests on my gall bladder and stomach. I get results tomorrow and will let you know.
I was not thrilled when he stated he had never heard of this problem and would have to consult with his colleagues...but oh well.
Have any of you had a Hyda-scan...they are awful, but I hope it gives my doc the info he needs. He is leaning towards my gall bladder being the problem. (since hyda-scan two years ago showed me in the very low, but normal range).
I'll post results of second hyda-scan and docs thoughts tomorrow.
With so many of us "alien gurglers" ..there has to be an answer.

hey
No way, like a lot of you I thought this was just me being weird... I've never been able to burp and I'm very rarely sick too, its kind of a one-way system in my throat. The gurgling throat noises are so frustrating, I can't sleep or get comfortable when it's in full flow. It's kind of like hiccoughs I guess but there's no stopping it until it's done.
Various doctor's have told me: 'I'm eating too fast' 'I shouldn't talk when I eat' 'It's a bad habit where I swallow air' 'It's my age and I'll grow out of it (i'm nearly 27!)'

But basically they say they could operate to sort it out but due to the high risk of that sort of operation they'd prefer I'd just get on with it. I've been given tablets called Omeprazole to take once a day which may have helped a bit with the bloating but I still get the gurgling.

Me too!
I also have been suffering with this for all of my 27 years. I found out a year ago that my father had the same problem, as did my grandfather.

I feel like there's a lump in my throat, where an adam's apple would be (I'm a girl), and I have to "cough up" air, because I start feeling like I'm choking on it - which usually produces a loud, strong, uncontrollable expelling of air like someone punched me in the gut. It's worse when I drink anything carbonated like soda. Antacids and meds don't seem to help a bit.

As an aside, I also had the cord wrapped around my throat as a baby, and had to get an emergency C-section. As the fourth one in this thread to mention this, I kinda wonder if we're onto something here.

PLEASE HELP US BURP
Like everyone else, I thought I was the only one. My stomache is gurgling as I type now. I've never been able to burp but can fart like no tomorrow. I burp every once in a while (months may pass between a burps), but I never know how I did it. CAN ONE OF YOU BURPERS PLEASE TRY TO EXPLAIN IN DETAIL HOW TO BURP? Maybe if we knew what we were doing, maybe some of us could get over this curse.

Growling, Heartburn, Bloating
I have been growling since I was a pre teen, my mother said she never remembers me burping as a child and my nickname as a baby was Pooter. I have burp about 5 times a year and they are weak, unexpected ones. For the past 2 years I have had heartburn frequently- mainly when I lay down to sleep. For the past year my upper belly becomes hard and round as the day progresses. I too have induced a vomiting motion by sticking my finger down my throat to "vomit" air. I can deal with the growling noise my throat makes (my family and friends are all use to it) and I can probably deal with the heatburn, but the pressure of the bloating is so uncomfortable! I don't have health insurance either so I have tried natural remedies (yogurt with probiotics, Swedish Bitters, Psyllium Husks and Thisylin) and OTC drugs (Prilosec and Zantac). I have had a few people tell me that it might be my gallbladder, but I went to the weight loss doctor my mother works for and he did bloodwork and said everything was okay. I just want to be comfortable!

I am 19. I had this problem for my whole life and cured it. At first I tried sticking my finger down my throat, which works, but in social situations is not ideal. After doing that for a while I was able to breath in a ton of air, hold it for a second, then do a huge cough, and a ton of air would come out. After doing that for a while, I guess my throat got used to it but I started burping regularly and now I burp all the time. Makes a huge difference

I had the same problem but its gone now
I couldn't burp and it bothered the hell out of me, all my friends did think it was funny though. I remember the first day i was able to control burps like it was yesterday. I've been an avid drinker of alcoholic beverages for some time now, and this one time i went to a party, new years, and there was a keg there, an old keg of flat beer. To most people this would be a problem, but for people like us it was great because beer usually really makes me bloated. so i drank a ton of flat beer and after that I've been able to burp. I'm not sure if it was the ton of flat beer or the fact that i just grew out of it. I suggest trying it, in the end if it doesn't work at least you get drunk.
