What Makes You a Mom?
Posted: 01-16-06 04:33am

Just posting a new subject to get feedback from you girls. My partner and I were discussing earlier today: when do you think you become a mother? After the baby is born and you care for him/her? When you see the baby born? When you start feeding and clothing and caring for your precious newborn? I think it's when you start putting yourself second to your little baby, making sacrifices (mine include quitting smoking, drinking and eating healthier) for the baby's health. Though I have about three weeks to go I think i'm a mother because I love my baby so much already. What do you think?

I think it's when ur still preggo. Just cuz that baby isn't living on its own yet doesn't mean that ur not it's mommy.

I agree with you justacanadiangirl.
You are a mommy from the moment that you realize that you carry a new life inside of you that needs your attention for a looong time!!
At least that's how I felt when I realized i'm pregnant, that now ... I am a mommy!! And of course when I felt the first kicks I had absolutely no doubt that I am a mommy!!!

My situtation is different. I married my husband who was caring for his six year old autistic son alone. He took to me as his mom and the day we bonded, I became a mommy. Now I am going to be a mommy again
