Q: Accuracy of Pregnancy Test Results during Perimenopause
asked by: DoctorQuestion on January 15th, 2006
I need to know if perimenopausal conditions (in regard to hormones) can affect home pregnancy tests. Specifically, can being perimenopausal cause a false negative result in a hpt? I have had three negatives, but no period since November 16. Now I do not know if my period is late because of pregnancy or just because it has been irregular. I cannot go to my doctor for a blood test. This is all secret.
Thank you.

Being perimenopausal normally doesn’t cause FALSE NEGATIVE pregnancy-test results. Usually only FALSE POSITIVE results are possible if you are using some older types of pregnancy-tests. If you are using BETA-pregnancy-tests, false positive test-results are not possible, too. So, don’t worry, you are not pregnant!
