My daughter has a 75 degree curve in her
upper spine which has happened in the last
year. She is 15 and in good general
health. She was born with 2 vertabrates
fused in her neck. The curve has caused
her pain and numbness and one shoulder has
noticablely dropped lower than the other.
Her orthopedic surgeon has said the only
thing that can be done for her is surgery
to correct the curve asap before it gets
worse. Since the curve is so severe, it
would just keep going and possibly start
affecting her vital organs and leave her
quite deformed. The surgery involves
putting rods in her back. We have heard
horror stories about this surgery and we
have heard about success stories. Any
information about this surgery would be
greatly appreciated. We have scheduled
the surgery for january 13, but are
frightened if we are doing the right thing
for her.
Thank you

I had a spinal fusion for scoliosis in
1997 when I was 15. I have had no
complications. I was able to play soccer
again within a year. Now 7 years later I
am preganant and still feeling great. I
recommend the surgery to anyone,
ecspecially with such a high degre
curvature. If you read up on the
potential problems that will occur given
the scoliosis is left untreated you will
understand the urgency. Best of luck!
