Q: Smoking Pot?

This is just a thing that I realized... ... I'd like to point out something that many people don't realize... There is no research suggesting that smoking pot harms your baby, which could lead some people to falsely believe that it is totally safe... The real reason for this lack of research is that it is illegal to perform research like that on a pregnant woman... So don't fall into a trap of false security... Smoking fills your uterus with smoke, and i'm not totally sure, but I think that thc crosses the placenta, meaning that the baby is exposed to it. I know plenty of women with healthy, intelligent kids who smoked pot during pregnancy, but i'm pregnant and avoiding smoke at all costs. Better safe than sorry...
Love to all

Smoking It!!
Hey

hey just because there is no reasearch to back up that it is harmful doesnt mean it is competely safe!! There is still a chance... Who would want to take that chance and premantly damage their child.. For your freinds who smoked pot during their pregnancy and their kids are fine... They should consider themselves very very lucky....All I kow is that I am not taking any chances when it comes to my baby...

There is research done on babies born to mother's who smoked marijuana during pregnancy and there are problems with some of them so it's not safe to say there is no research because there is. Also I don't know any girl on this forum who would be idiotic enough to put their baby in danger like that. They love their children Smile

I had a friend once that smoked while she was pregnant and when her baby was born she said "see she's fine" but I told her that she might be singing a different tune when her daughter is 5 and comes home from school embarrassed cause the other kids are making fun of her cause she dont learn as fast. I hope people know that it could have long term effects also!

In australia many people smoke pot. Most of my friends and family members smoked pot while they were pregnant (irresponsible if you ask me) but one thing I have noticed and I think is worth mentioning is that none of them had any miscarriages, but all of the children born to these parents have major learning disabilities. They are all very slow in school, some of them are in special classes to recieve extra help. I just found it really interesting that every one of these children are slow at learning. It seems unfair, I was about the only one who has never smoked pot during any of my pregnancies, yet I was the one to have a miscarriage.

Ok i'm new to this forum and all.. But me(i'm 22 weeks along) and my friend(who has already had a baby at the age of 17) were talkin about this girl(we'll call her b.) who about 2 weeks ago found out she was pregnant. Well this girl along with my friends boyfriend and my husband went up stairs and smoked some pot. After they got done smoking it b. Went outside for something. So I yelled at my husband that if he ever lets her smoke again with him that it'll be done and he won't wanna find out what will happen.. Well he fights back with my mom smoked pot while she was pregnant with me and i'm smarter then s*it( which he is, but he has a reading disability). And from what I know in the state i'm from you can get your child taken away from you if they give the baby a test for drugs.

Does anyone think I was wrong for yelling at my hubby for what I think is a total act of tryin to kill your kid?

It's never a good idea and I too don't understand how anyone could do it while pregnant.

I think we also need to take in to account that the effects pot has directly on the smoker will in turn affect the fetus, even if the pot itself does not.

Such as, smoking pot raises the smoker's heart rate. For a pregnant woman with undiagnosed high blood pressure this could be very dangerous. Even for a pregnant woman who has normal blood pressure, prolonged increased heart rate isn't healthy. It's the same reason you're told not to exercise strenuously while pregnant.

Smoking pot also causes the 'munchies'. Eating well is a must while pregnant, especially if you have gestational diabetes. And when you're stoned and hungry you aren't going to stop and make a balanced meal. You're going to grab a bag of potato chips or a bunch of cake or ice cream.

It also irritates the lungs just like tobacco smokers. If you don't breath well, neither does the baby.

Most women find energy in short supply while pregnant. If you get bronchitis or athsma while pregnant, that's yet more energy and time that your body has to divert to healing itself and fighting the sickness then putting towards the baby and you. And people can die from emphysema, my son's grandfather did last april. It's not something you want to get.

I think people make their own decisions no matter what other people think, I also don't find it right that you all are basically saying any pregnant girl that smokes weed would be a bad mom & wouldnt love her baby.

I know a girl who had to smoke weed while pregnant. If she wouldn't have smoked weed she never would of ate, her morning sickness was really bad & that was the only "medicine" to make it better. She let her doctor know on the situation & he told her not to smoke too much. Her baby came out weighing 4lbs 6ounces, and he was full term. Her baby is 4 now and is fine, he's so smart and shes an awesome mom.

=) not every baby comes out "retarded" and with problems if you smoke pot.

That is true, I also, know a girl who smoked pot while she was pregnant and has a healthy baby as well. But...It is a respect issue...If the mother wants to smoke pot..Fine, but the baby can not make that choice yet..And is being exposed to it anyway. Its just not healthy. And sad.

By the looks of how kids are nowdays he'll do it later on in life.

I'm thinking about grounding my baby to his bedroom so he'll stay a good baby & not get bad lol.

it is not fair for the baby for the mother to smoke pot. It is selfish. Period.

Yeah it's not fair only because the baby can't choose to make it's own decisions, but like I said he'll end up doing it later on in life anyways which doesn't really make a difference.

I don't know about any of you but ive never met a person who hasnt done a lot of drugs & experienced with a lot of things. It's part of life, you live & you learn.

Personally I have only done pot twice in my life, nothing else. My husband hasn't even touched drugs.

I don't think doing pot makes you a horrible person though, however when you're pregnant you are not just subjecting yourself to it, you're also subjecting your unborn child to it. Take only 9 months and be selfless..... You won't regret it later :)

you don't know that your kid won't, so you cant even say that.

You're kid will end up lying to you about doing drugs, because thats what kids do.

I think most of everyone has done drugs, if someone hasnt then more power to em, but in reality, from all the people ive met. Even people in college. They've done a lot.

And to be honest so have i. The best you can do is tell your child to stay away from it because its bad, but that makes them wanna do it even more because they're not supposed to.

So ya...
