The youngest a baby is viable from is really about 23 weeks. And even then their odds are very small. Every week counts when they're that young.

The longest they'll let you go over your due date nowadays is about 2 weeks. So you would be about 42 weeks and if you haven't gone in to labor on your own they will induce you at that point.

I went in to labor naturally at 39 weeks.

Theres not a way to make that baby come any faster other than medical intervention. There are old wives tales like drinking castor oil or having lots of sex but there havent been any studies to prove it. I had a nice doctor and she agreed to induce labor like 6 days b4 my due date but only cuz my cervix was already opening a lil and it ended in a c-section ne ways.

Young Babies
Yes, babies born at 24 weeks can survive with todays technology. Unfortunately, many of them have severe mental developmental delays such as varying levels of retardation. Our medical science has come such a long way in saving these babies, but a baby that cannot live without such drastic medical intervention is against god's will. If they were meant to survive, they would do it without the docs.

that's absolutely ridiculous and offensive and contradictory.

You're probably anti-abortion too right? Because you view the fetus as a life? But yet miscarriage and premature labor are god's will? Whatever happened to killing a life? The fetus is a fetus when a girl thinks about aborting but it's not a fetus when the cervix opens prematurely and it's born?

Please. Everyone needs medical intervention at some point.

Have you ever taken a pain medication for something? An aspirin? A tylenol? I hope not. Those pills came from medical science and are interfering with god's will that you be in pain.

I hope you've never been to the dentist. They're medically trained and dental care comes from science. If your teeth rot away, that's obviously god's will because otherwise he'd keep your teeth strong without brushing or medical care from a dentist. Got any fillings? Crowns? Bridges? Ever had braces? Hope not. Or else you've sinned and will go to hell.

I hope you've never had an operation, because if anything happened to your body it's obviously god's will and having an operation to fix it is against his will that you suffer and possibly die.

I hope you never have taken a vitamin to be healthier, those come from medical science too. If your body is anemic or lacking in vitamins then that must be god's will and the medically invented vitamins are against his will.

I hope none of your family has ever done any of these things because then they would be commiting a sin and going against god and go to hell for it.

See how ridiculous your logic is? Get lost.

im not totally against what you said ...But I am against abortion in some ways...Like when a girl can lay down and have sex but then when she finds out she is pregnant...Runs to have an abortion ...With no reason other than ...Oh I want to go to college ..Im scared blah blah blah..That is wrong in my eyes...

The only time I think abortion is "right"
rape
mother at risk of life
baby at risk of life...

I've had a debate for over 3 days now with a girl over pro-choice, pro-life...And it was pointless ...Leslie has her opinions of things and so do you ...So just because her's arent the same as yours ...Doesnt make you the better person..Or give you the right to be a jerk ...Sorry if this makes you mad ...But everyone has the right to their own opinion and they all should be respected...

i respect her right to her opinion. I don't respect her coming to a post like this and posting that sh*t. This isn't an abortion debate. It isn't warrented for her to cram her beliefs down everyone's throat. Especially in such a ridiculous manner. If she even said "i'm pro-life. I think abortion is wrong." I wouldn't reply but to say that miscarriage is god's way or that people trying to save the lives of infants born prematurely is against god is offensive and ridiculous...Even to those of us who aren't christian. I hope to god there's no mother on here that's lost a child to prematurity because what she basically said was "ha ha your baby died and it was god's way! Your baby was an abomination against god! Good thing the little sinful creature died!!! God is happy again now!"

that irritates me.

Listen Hunter
There is not a woman who is more pro-choice than I am. I am a medical professional (pharmacist) and I have seen the end result of a baby born too early with the .S.E.V.E.R.E developmental delays. All I was trying to say is that sometimes the end result of medical intervention is devastating. Technology has come a long way, but we don't always think of the consequenses of those actions...That is all I meant.

Please stop ranting about me being anti-abortion, thank-you. In the states, you have a government that wants to ban abortion, and I think that is absolutely disgusting...It would be like erasing the past 30 years of women's liberation. Every woman has the right to make that decision for herself.

If you had of actually read what I wrote rather than skimmed it, I think you would have had a better understanding of what I meant.

And for your info, I am 12 weeks pregnant, and we want this child more than anything in the world. However, if at 24 weeks, this baby was born, I would not want the doctors to intervene. The life sentence of mental retardation would be unfair to my baby. We just hope that nothing like this happens, because it would be devastating.

And by the way, a miscarriage is nature's way of taking care of a pregnancy that was never viable to start with. And I never said that there was anything wrong with stopping premature labor. Holy crap you read soooooooo much more into my post than I was actually saying. And I think you pulled it out of your head somewhere, cuz it was nowhere in my post.

i read what you wrote. It seems you forgot, let me remind you a baby that cannot live without such drastic medical intervention is against god's will. If they were meant to survive, they would do it without the docs. there's really no two ways to interpret that. "monkeys are bad". You can't interpret that as anything other then what it is. Just like you can't interpret "babies who can't survive on their own at 24 weeks are against god's will" as anything other then what it is.

Just because you don't want to put up with having a child with delays doesn't mean that everyone else thinks the same way. Sure, nobody plans to have a child with delays but I think it's ridiculous and selfish to cut a child off life saving techology just because you didn't get the perfect baby you planned for. There's nothing to say these children don't have feelings and wants just like you or me or anybody else. Why shouldn't they have a crack at life too?

To hunterjumper:

so are you prolife or pro choice cuz y is it that if a baby is born early they deserve a crack at life but a baby who has just been concieved doesnt? Just wonderin cuz personally I think if u willingl had sex and got knocked up then there shouldnt be an easy way out. I live in the states and agree with my government on banning choice abortion other than medical/health reasons or rape.

Pregnancy Questions
Wow!

It looks like people got a little off track in replying to your question.

The first response was pretty accurate - as far as making delivery faster, i'm a strong supporter of natural childbirth. I had five babies, full-term - and thank god all five are healthy. I don't think the process can be sped up - other than the injection your doctor can give you to start labor.

My personal experience was great! The pain was not so bad that I needed drugs to control it. But i've heard other women experience pain beyond their ability to endure. I think it has a lot to do with your build and pain tolerance. To make the delivery faster or possibly easier, get plenty of exercise - not too strenous - and eat a healthy diet.

Do the research to find out how different pain killers may affect your baby before deciding what to use. My best advice: read, read, read every reliable bit of information you can get your hands on!

Good luck!!

being for children who are born early doesn't mean you have to be anti-choice. 90% of abortions are performed in the first trimester. And of those 80% are performed at 8 weeks or less. Therefor, comparing aborting a 5 or 6 week fetus that was not wanted in the first place to a woman who wanted her baby, took all responsible steps to ensure a healthy pregnancy adn went in to pre-term labor and delivered a preemie is ridiculous. They are not the same.

My stance is irrelevant to the arguement.

and? It still doesn't compare to a 24 week wanted child. People don't generally plan to go into labor early. People choose to have abortions.

An orange and a basketball are both round and both orange. That doesn't mean they're the same thing just because they look alike or have some of the same features.

Anyway---to answer your question I dont know much about premature but I know the longest theyll let you go is 42 weeks then they will induce.
I had my daughter at 38 1/2 weeks. I drank casteroil...Lol...And she came the next day! But who knows what really brought the labor on. Good luck!

i know its been a couple of days since someone has post on here but I have something else to say about this...

You say that our "logic " is ridiculous ..But from our point of view yours is...Because for one this isnt debate ...This is a place for support..If you want to debate about abortion...Go to abortion debate...Anyways..Your example of the dentist..Surgery...Stuff like that is really stupid..Because abortion is killing ..Its homicide alot different than someone getting help for something that has gone wrong with them...Yeah god had that as a plan for that person to have that problem ..But he also made science/scientist...Which were people that he put onto this earth in which to help those people in need...Make new inventions..Im not totally against abortion...Because I think abortion is right when rape/mom is at risk of life/ baby at risk of life..But I dont find abortion being right when girls are like omg it will give me stretch marks or oh I am to young...Because if you can lay in bed and receive sex then you can receive the consquences...And yes god has his plan for everyone..And those who get abortion will only live regreting what they have done...And I can prove that by going into the abortion forum..And reading stories about girls who *wish* they could have their babies back...So not only is abortion wrong it causes life long problem...Seems to me like abortion causes more problems to a person than would have the baby if they would have just grew up and gave that baby a life like it deserves...
