How long does it take for the shot to be 99%accutate. Or in other words how long this it take to take effect and protect the person from getting pregnant?

The depo shot does take time to get into your system. It may be stated that it takes effect immediately, but who honestly knows? In the meantime, it is adviseable through medical personnel to use condoms for up to a month if engaging in sex. Condoms not only protect from pregnancy, but as a barrier for unwanted diseases...Genital warts, hpv, std's etc............ I'd rather wear a sock than go barefoot and take the risk of getting a foot fungus!!!!! My mother is an rn in labor delivery, my father is a doctor!

Hmm well I read in an article that you have to wait 5 days after your period to get the shot. In another one I read that it has to be with in 5 days of your period. Hmm I got the shot on the same day I started my period so it that ok? I dont know I for got to ask my doctor.

It states that when given within days of a period, like all docs do actually, it is effective immediately :)
