I've new here tonight, and wanted to share my experince as being diagnosed w/seconday amerronhea. I'm 27 yrs old. I went off the pill in april after being on it since I was 17-18 yrs old. Finally the doctor decided for me to try provera. I have taken it about 2-3 wks ago and nothing yet. So I called the doctor and she said let's give it another week. I also had a high prolactin level of 140 (normal range 1.8-1) which dropped to normal after d/c the birth control. If you have a high prolactin level theres an indication of a pitutary tumor. (i have an mri for the last pasts 2 yrs and it they come back negative). (thank god). Also after d/cing the birth control I lost 25 lbs. So now i"m not responding to the provera, I also have had pelvic & transvaginal ultrasound and it came back negagtive. So i'm going to give it another week, and get bloodwork tomorrow at work. Has anyone ever experience a problem like this or similar???? It's really frustrating and stressful. All I want to do is be able to have a healthy baby. I get so depressed thinking I will not be able to conceive............ :( :( :( :(

Hi
:d
i went through a successful pregnancy last year and although my infertility problem is different. I say dont give up hope and be patient. There are so many differebt drugs out there and it may take a few tries to get you on the right med. You may talk to your fertility specialist about starting on gonal f or consider doing an iui cycle. Hope this helps.

Re: Body Not Responding to Provera............
I am having similar problems. I conceived in jul 04 and had a successful pregnancy with baby born mar 05. I am just now trying again and in oct my period disappeared and never came back. Doc prescribed provera and that worked... 3 days after completion period came. (they may need to up your dosage or have you take it 2x's day) but every test I use to test for ovulation is not detecting anything. I dont think I am producing enough of the lh hormone to signal ovulation. I feel so helpless.
Like you, I was on the pill since 17 and I am 25 now.

I hope you get good news soon...

Re Not Responding to Provera...
Hi
its good to know that other people are going through the same thing as you..I also have secondary amenorrhea but mine is because I use to work out so much and I lost a lot of weight 4 years ago..(and got into bodybuilding.). My body just stopped producing hormones!! I havent had a period in almost 4 years!! The doctor put me on provera and it didnt work!! I guess because I don't have any estrogen and provera is a progesterone..So now they are putting me on estrodiol (an estrogen) and than provera... And that is suppose to make me bleed.. But im also very frustrated and concerned!! I have been trying desperatly to conceive for a long time and I fear I will never be able to...I don't know if its possible?

Provera not working . . .
The same thing happened to me after years of using bc pills. Provera didn't work. I started taking Vitex tincture (not pills). Two weeks later I had a period! Black Cohosh can also work for some women. Try a natural approach and see what happens. It's kinder to your body than using synthetic, manufactured drugs.
