Q: Does Putting On Weight Help?

I am barely 5' and weigh 90 pounds. I am having trouble getting pregnant. I have heard that some people who didn't weigh a lot couldn't get pregnant until they put on some weight. Any truth to that??

Are you having normal periods? People who are really under weight or really over weight can suffer because there periods can become really irregular or even stop. I would take a guess that if you periods are ok then this shouldnt cause you a problem. If your still worried then why not see your doctor for a check up then they should be able to tell whether or not its in your best interests to put on alittle or not. Good luck to you :)

My periods are irregular, but I never go without having one. They show up every 30-42 days.

How long have you been ttc? For some people it takes a long while before actually becoming pregnant. Have you ever spoken to a doctor with your concerns?

We've not been trying - just not preventing. It's been almost 3 years.

If I was you I would make an appointment for the doctor esp. If you want a baby and ask their advice. They will be able to tell you if you are within the healthy weight range to start trying for a baby. Good luck and let me know how it goes :)

My ob-gyn told me today that my being thin (5' - 90#) is what is probably causing my periods to be irregular... Which, (my periods being irregular) is what is causing it to take longer for me to get pregnant. She said that when your periods are irregular you don't ovulate every single month, thus making it more difficult to get pregnant (timing wise). I hope this helps others in the same situation to breathe a sigh of relief like I did.

Being underweight can throw off your hormones. So can being overweight.. I wish there was a way I could donate some of my extra pounds to you!! I have the opposite preoblem. I need to lose weight and im worried about gaining even more when I get pregnant.

Try to eat very high calorie meals. You could also frink boost a high calorie supplement in addition.
