Q: Do Irregular Cycles Make It More Difficult?

I have cycles between 30-42 days, but always have my period within that time frame. My mother said it took her 3-4 years before she got pregnant. I have been married two 1/2 years now & haven't been preventing against it... But i'm still not pregnant. Is this normal, heridetary, is it because of my long cycles, or should I be worried about an underlying cause and/or infertility?

I read somewhere that if you have sex every other day you should be able to conceive on average within 6 months... (anyone can correct me here, im going off of what I thought I read a few days ago) and fertility is not usually questioned until after a year. I beleive you can buy a test kit online that tests the amount of sperm in semen. I thought I saw that too. Just a thought.

My ob-gyn told me today that my being thin (5' - 90#) is what is probably causing my periods to be irregular... Which, (my periods being irregular) is what is causing it to take longer for me to get pregnant. She said that when your periods are irregular you don't ovulate every single month, thus making it more difficult to get pregnant (timing wise). I hope this helps others in the same situation to breathe a sigh of relief like I did.
