Q: Arm Numbness

Recently my boyfriend has been complaining about his arms going numb. When he wakes up they are usually tingling and sometimes when he is doing a task such as shaving, they start to go numb and he almost drops what he is doing. He has been doing labor-type work since september and has recently put on at least 20 lbs. We don't know if it could be a pinched nerve or poor circulation or what. Could someone help with this mystery? If so, is there something he can do to stop it from happening, or does he need to get to a doctor? I would really apprectiate your comments on this!

This is often a side-effect of having a high body fat percentage, or retaining a lot of water. Both of which will put pressure on his veins to reduce blood flow. Reduced blood flow, means less oxygen transport. Arms get starved for oxygen, and they go numb.

However, this can also be the sign of a more serious problem such as a heart condition where the heart has difficulty pumping blood when his arms are raised, or a problem with his blood cells.

My advice is to go to a doctor and get a complete physical with blood analysis done.

I would definately suggest seeing a professional. It could range from something small and easy to take care of, to something serious and life threatening. If he's put on 20lbs, was he fairly light weighted before, or is that an addition to an already large mass?
