Hi - I haven't read the whole thread, so hope this hasn't already been gone over, but was wondering how long vivid dreams persist for after giving up smoking marijuana. My husband smoked for 15 years and is having a lot of trouble with his dreams, he feels like he is not even sleeping. He quit 1 mth ago. Thanks.

weed withdrawls, sleep, dreams etc
i was a weed smoker for 20 years. everyday 3-5 times a day. yea, i was real bad. i quit cold turkey about two days ago. my wife said she would not have a kid w/ me if i continued to smoke. pretty good incentive i suppose...smoking weed was so ingrained that one of the hardest parts is just the habit itself. wake and bake, after eating, smoking at a club. physically i think i'm ok. it's the habit of going to the basement and sitting in my chair and smoking or having the bowl in the car etc. etc.

it is bizarre that people mention the dreams as well. vivid, lifelike unbelieveable dreams. sleep is tough throughout the night but i guess i can deal with that. half the time my wife is snoring and wakes me up anyways. just break the habit itself and i think the withdrawl symptoms will go away. the long road trip, going to the beach (oh man did i like to light up on miami beach) just breaking the habit is the toughest. anyone who wants to email for support..go right ahead...

Withdral symptoms after 25 yrs. of heavy use
Hello everyone!
I just signed in, great site.
I'm 41 yrs. old, it's been 21 days since quit after smoking pot for 25 years.
I smoked 3-4 joints only in the evening on week days and 15-20 through the weekend. Round the clock on vacations (2-3 weeks a year)
My symptoms are: always tired, irritated, unfocused, out of place, weird dreams.
Please, can someone with exactly same symptoms tell me how long this will go on for ? I don,t drink or do other drugs and I eat healthy(I know it,s unusual for heavy pot smoker)
Dope was inhibiting everything I wanted to accomplish in my life (I was in denial about that and always looked for other reasons) and I don,t
want to die a pot head!
javascript:emoticon('thanks')
thanks

can't have a baby because of chronic pot use
So, today marks the fourth day of sobriety for the first time in 15 years. I made it to this forum through desperation. My husband and I have used marijuana for 15 years of daily (and I mean everyday) consumption. It became clear that we needed to quit as we are planning for a family. Marijuana really put our plan on hold...we can't conceive, because his sperm are 99% abnormal. This is not a myth. We are now attempting sobriety together with the hopes that three months from now we have improved our chances of healthy fertility. Long story short, I have a college degree, but never the sense to think of the long term consequences. I'm scared of failing. I've now typed myself to tears. Anyone have a similar story?

Hmmm
I wonder how our topic poster is. The one and only post that was made here was by the user wat on Jan 1/08. Obviously he don't want to quit, or just don't need our advice. Good thread anyway. Keep it going!

My wife and I also quit together after smoking pot for 25 years,we also smoked cigars and we quit them too (it's been 30 days ).we,re on the patch.
Our symptoms (tired, not sleeping, irritated, anxiety, out of place, not knowing what to do with ourselfs) are going away. We found that we have to get to know each other all over again. We are different people off dope.
This will show how strong you are committed to each other. Find things you ca do together to substitute smoking weed. Ditch pot heads you hang with, they will be jealous of your success.Delete dealers from speed dial.
Withdrawals ARE temporary, stay strong, remember the reason you quit in first place. You will feel lost for a while because weed was your MASTER for long time. Now You are your master! Stay strong! keep going and you guys will be successful in anything including pregnancy. Believe in yourself,YOU and your future kids are worth it! Good luck

supporters
I'm getting tired of "supporters" on this site telling recovering addicts that it's OK to do it "once in a while" or that it's not addictive. It's like telling alcoholics that it's OK to have a drink now and then.Or telling a coke head it's OK to have an occasional hit ". Or telling any addict that it's OK to "treat" them selfs once in a while. If it works for YOU- thats great!!! Continue keeping your head in your .....
Most people here seek support because it's NOT working for them.
Everyone has a different personality, different upbringing, different circumstances.
Please take your "advice" and post it on a seed selling site.
To all recovering addicts: stay away from the crap that got you on this site in a first place and good luck!

"occasional use"
I have to echo smartdummy's comments on "supporters" giving addicts the idea that using on occasion is acceptable. Let this be clear--not one single rehabilitative program, support group, or counselor out there supports the theory that if you cut back, you should allow yourself the occasional joint or bowl. You are still using, and thereby still a user. Do not delude yourself into thinking that this is a more manageable lifestyle, because that is distorted. AND seriously, don't encourage other addicts to believe this B.S., just because you are scared of sobriety!!

The wisdom of Bullzye
Wow, what I can't believe is how backwards your understanding of marijuana use, abuse and addiction is. You stated that when you're a healthy, happy, positive person, marijuana use "can really improve the quality of your life." Why would I want to use a substance to improve the quality of a life that doesn't need improving?

Gotta tell ya that at one time, before I began using, I WAS happy, healthy and positive on my own, unassisted by any substance, but since I became a chronic user (aka an addict) my brain lost it's ability to balance any dopamine production on it's own-which made me dependent to feel good at all.

ALSO, you don't feel any different yet, because you are still stoned. There is enough THC stored and released in your fat cells to keep you sedated for the next 4 weeks if you were a chronic user. Lastly, this forum is for those seeking support, not for permission from you to use when I'm feeling stable. Spare me and others the uneducated and misleading advice.

man reading all these stories about you guys is helping me cope with what im going through rite now. i'm 20 yrs old and have been smoking weed almost everyday since i was 13, about 2 to 3 eiths a week. i had to quit smoking because i was busted by the cops and now im on probation and have to drop.

im on day 4 and im really pissed. at first i was mad that i had to quit but now i realize how much better my life can be now that i'm not smoking, ill save money and be able to reconnect with my dad and brother alot more because i was high all the time when ever id talk to them before.

but like all of you i am experiencing some pretty harsh withdrawals and it sucks big time. my dreams are so real and most of them are pretty messed up i havnt had dreams like this in i dont know how long but theyre so intense i cant even wake myself out of them. and ive been having really bad stomach pains.

whats different with me from what ive been reading is that everyone is saying how they cant go to sleep ever. its happening opposite for me in fact when im more sleepier now than i was before.

so just telling my story to you guys and wondering if this happening to you, because i know we all love weed but it does hinder some of us in progressing with are lives.

Re:japygiff
congrats on your first steps to freedom!
By getting busted your guardian Angels are trying to get you back on track.
Take this opportunity to get rid of this powerful addiction that was starting to overcome
your life, you are better than that, your dreams in life deserve a chance! you don,t want
to depend on substance that tells you when you can eat, go shopping, talk to your family, have sex, sleep, work, watch tv ..... only losers depend on drugs and other
mind altering substances to get them through hardships in life. You've been put on this earth to handle life on your own (for whatever reason) Do the best you can, nobody will judge you but YOU! I'm 41, I quit over 2 months ago, been smoking for 25 years
Weed stole the best years of my life! That's O.K. I still got many good, addiction free years to live out. Withdraws are temporary, I had horrible vivid dreams too, that's your subconscious waking up and it,ll go away after 30 days or so depending on your body. Keep your self busy, try doing thins you've always only dreamed of doing while stoned. Ditch you pothead friends, your pot head cloths and old routine,
believe in yourself and good things will happen.
Stay strong! You ARE the man!
Regards,
Smartdummy

marijuana withdrawl
Hi there people, I'm from Aruba and have been a heavy pot smoker for more than 4 years. Exactly 14 days ago I decided to go cold turkey. And let me tell you it's been very hard. Reading all the posts on this subject does make me feel better, in the way that not only I am feeling these symptoms. I am feeling light to hard head aches, no appetite and nasua.
I could have started lowering my dose but I decided to just stop at once. I am 200lbs and I read that people that cary excess fat will have more thc in their fat making it harder to quit or harder withdrawl sysmptoms. I read that many people say it's in your head and yes it's one part in your head but research from harvard university shows that marijuana withdrawl is real. I am a religous guy and therefore have lot's of faith and that's helping me pull thrue. For that reason I don't let myself get too depressed thinking on things. Again it's my 14th day and I'm still feeling sick but all I can say is that I was feeling worst a week ago. I had heavy anxiety (still but less) and still having trouble sleeping. I try to take walks in the afternoon to make me somewhat tired so I can sleep at night. Now that I stopped smoking pot I find myself with lot's of time on my hand and having deficulty filling in those spaces. I will soon pick up guitar lessons , kite surfing and other sports. The reason I haven't started yet is because of my nasua and headaches. But I do have a possitive outlook on all this, it will be hard but I'm very willing. All I can say is keep up tha faith and believe in yourself. Again I have no more wishes to smoke I just want to feel better. I'm hoping that day by day I will feel better. So...stay strong!

mind body connection
i've smoked regularly (pretty much daily) for the past 6 years. in the last two i've smoked at least 5 blunts daily. i had a deviated septum (couldn't breathe through my nose) and, as a bronchial dialator it helped me breathe. if there's one thing i've learned from smoking is that there is a mind body connection. kinda like feelings where thoughts, and they'd move through me. egro if it is a psychological addiction it will affect my interaction with my body. anyone who is as against entertaining the notion that marijuana may physically addictive as some of the people on here must be in denial of it's physical benefits, ya know... like why it is actually legal in california.

any-who, the symptoms of flu that i read described by some people are completely warranted. after smoking as much as i did, i have a whole lot of crap in my lungs that wants to come on up, five years of phlegm moving through one's respiratory system is quite painful and will give you body aches just like the flu. i found some online references for phlegm removal.

as for the psychological/physical manifestations of the psychological aspects, it helps to focus on why the addiction began. i know one of the previous times i attempted to quit i didn't like not being able to feel, so i meditated on feeling, aka, 'thinking' with the heart. things like yoga really help feel this mind/body dynamic. we're raised to believe that we think with our minds, but that's a cultural imposition. the egyptians thought with their hearts which is why they preserved them so well. their heart-equivalent to neurons were the melanin in their skin. for them mummification was a way of preserving their heart's physical blueprint allowing their souls to come back to earth to be venerated.

oh and as a disclaimer for those who would choose to throw this "egyptian" perspective out the window because it's not relevant, think about all those "secret societies" who use knowledge from said cultures as a means for controlling the masses.

much love to those who are finding peace within, and patience to look within for those who search without.

-gabriel

I started smoking weed when I was 28, about 5 years ago. It started with a little bit of brown soapbar in a pipe once or twice a week, then went to most days, then my mum died & I went on to white widow skunk & upgraded to a bong. I smoke every day, & over the years I stop to give my body a rest for 2 to 4 months if I can. 4 months being the longest break in 5 years.

At first it wasn't that hard to stop, I would just get a headache & I was ok, but after my last session of smoking every day for about 6 months without a break I got nightmares most night & was unable to sleep, I got a pounding headache & nausea every other day which is strange, I was irritable & moody, tired & find it hard to concentrate on anything & even memory loss like when I'm stoned.

After going through all that withdrawal & staying off it for 8 weeks I was stupid enough to start it again, at first i told myself I could limit myself to once or twice a week which i did for 4 weeks & by the 6th or 7th week I was back to every day again.

I was back on it for just 2 months & just decided to quit again, with the same side affects like I had after smoking for 6 months.
Day 5 it always starts with a bad headache & nausea, then it's one day feel great, the next, bad headache & nausea.

I can't really remember how long it took me to get through this last time but I wouldn't wish this on anyone. It is true that alcohol will make you feel like getting stoned & especially if you usually smoke weed & drink alcohol at the same time like I did.

Good luck.
