I am 5 2 and 110 pounds, tiny frame. I had my first two children vaginally and the third was by cesearean section due to the baby being transverse instead of head down. I would wait and see how your labor progresses. Your doc might be referring to a small pelvic girdle which can prevent some women from delivering vaginally. As for michelle1981, most doctors do not like performing cesearean sections unless deemed medically necessary due to the high medical malpractice rates for this type of surgery. In some cases a cesearean section is needed due to a baby being too large to pass through the pubic bones and the pelvic girdle, causing the head to get stuck which is life threatening to the baby. Sometimes the placenta seperates from the uterine wall and that is an emergency. As for your doc, stick with her. Any doctor who leaves the decision to do a cesearean section up to the mother is not c section happy or lazy. She is leaving this decision up to you. However, during your labor things might change and you may end up having one. Before a doctor cuts into you, he or she will outweigh the risks and benefits of proceeding vaginally and any good doctor will let you know exactly why you need a c section, example, "you have been in labor for 38 hours and you have only dilated to two centimeters and we have given you drugs to help you along but they are not working. Now your baby is showing signs of distress and we need to get the baby out now." ask your doc to be more clear on the reasons she wants you to have a c section, ask her if it is because she thinks your pelvic girdle is too small or if the baby is not positioned right. If she cannot give a clear answer, get another doctor. Best wishes. Ps cesearean sections, like vaginal deliveries are different in everyone. Within three hours of my cesearean, I was up walking (you have to hug a pillow for the first week when you get up or cough) and within a week I was doing my usual routine, just slightly modified. I would rather see you have a vaginal delivery, but most off a healthy baby either way.
