Hi, I was wondering if anyone had experienced these symptoms. I have been waking up unable to move, shaking, hearinga buzzing noise, feels like fear has entered my room. Sometimes it happens during the day I feel like electricity is flowing through me and that osmething is crawling on my back .. There is also an intense feeling of fear.
I also have bad mood swings so right now I am on risperdal, the dr suspects possible bipolar, however I have to go for an eeg. I used to have fits when I was younger when my temperature got too high, does what im experiencing sound like a form of epilepsy ? What should I expect when I have an eeg ?

Sounds like it could be a few things. Glad your doctor is having you get an eeg to rule out seizures.

The eeg is a pretty simple and painless test. Usually you have less sleep the night before, no caffeine, and they attach the leads to your head with a paste after carefully measuring. It can take 30 minutes - 1 hour usually.
They will want you to sleep for part of it and may do photic stim and hyperventilate you to see if that changes your eeg patterns.

I hope you find answers.

Hi There Firefly09
Hello my name is sam,

the eeg wont last long it's totaly painless, they attatch about 20 leads to your head with a glue- then connect it to a box that connects to a computer so it can read your brain patterns eg activity. They may not have told you but you must wash your hair well make sure you have no gell or wax in your hair ok. They want it to be as oil free as possible. No drinks of coffee or coke or tea. Just sleep your normal way unless you have been instructed otherise.
As for the hyperventilation part they ask you to breathe deeply in and out for a few minutes,
the photo stimulation part is where they get a red strobe light and they put it infront of your face and with the computer they make different patterns and sequences of light flash on and off , faster and faster. Throught the hyperventilation stage. You also get asked to keep your eyes shut. And to keep your eyes open in parts.
Thats all its nothing scarey. You will be fine
i have had 3 of them.

i have never been through one that isnt sleep deprived. Usually I have been told not to eat or drink anything for twelve hours before testing. What I believe she was talking about is they flash lights and have you open and close your eyes just follow the instructions of the person doing the testing and yes make sure your hair is washed the night before and its totally painless but have someone go with you cuz you may be very tired afterwords. All the ones I have had done where an hour long and then they will be able to see if there is seizure activity good luck
