I've recently discovered that this is what
i'm experiencing and would like to hear
about other peoples sleep paralysis. I
thought it was just me !
This is what happens...
I'm awake lying in bed looking across the
room when all of a sudden I get this
strange sensation throughout my entire
body, I can only describe it as a deep
tingling feeling. Then I hear a noise,
its sounds like what you would hear when
you listen to a sea shell, however its
often rhythmic.
This is when the panic sets in and I
realise what's about to happen. At this
stage i'm completely paralyzed, I cant
even lift a finger. I try desperately to
snap myself out of it but often its to
late. I also try and scream out for help
but I cant talk or even move my lips.
I get this overwhelming and terrifying
felling of an evil presents in the room, I
feel its getting closer and the noise gets
louder. Although I only ever see what's
actually in the room, and nothing else.
Often what feels like an evil power or
spirit will drag me out of bed and across
the floor, trying to drag me under the bed
or into a small gap beside or behind a
wardrobe. Its always a dark and confined
space. Other times my bed has been shaken
around furiously with me along for the
ride. I've also been lifted up into the
air and shaken around and once I was
pushed down into my bedding, it felt like
I was being squashed by the atmosphere.
The howl time this is happening I feel
completely awake and terrified by this
overwhelming and evil power, but have no
control over whats happening to me, I feel
completely helpless. The only way I
manage to snap out of it is by repeatedly
saying in my mind - "wake up, wake up". I
say this very quickly and in a panicked
state.
After the episode I find myself lying in
exactly the same position and looking at
exactly the same things as prior to it.
Its almost like nothing happened at all.
But get this...
Last night I had sleep paralysis and I
woke up from it after about 20 seconds,
but didn't, if you know what I mean. I
just dreamt I woke up. Then about five
second later I actually did wake up.
Very scary stuff.

Outer Body Experience !!!! But I Want This to Stop ! Posted: 01-15-06 12:52pm
It’s just happened to me again! I’m
up coz I don’t really want to fall
asleep now, its destroying my sleep.
It’s almost happened three times tonight
but I was able to stop the first two
episodes within a second or so - as soon
as I heard the noise.
For some reason with this episode I
didn’t feel an evil presents in the
room. So I thought to myself if I can’t
stop it I might as well just let it
happen. Whilst I was going into it I was
saying to myself - “think good things,
think good things” so that it wouldn’t
turn bad.
This time it was completely different. I
left my body!!!. I could feel myself
leaving and I even made the choice to do
so. It was almost like I just sat up and
hoped out of it.
I was then walking through my apartment
very angry and kicking things, I then
jumped off the balcony because I knew it
was just my projection and I wouldn’t
really get hurt. Then I was running
around the apartment block slamming doors
and stuff, but the apartment block looked
different. I was running around very
angry with why this was happening to me.
Then I found myself back at mum and dads,
in there bedroom. Mum was crying in bed.
I was trying to explain to her that I
wasn’t really there and that I was in
sleep paralysis and this was just my
projection and not really my body. Then
that was the end of it.
During this episode, every now and then I
would be back in bed in my paralysed body,
I would try and move and snap out of it,
but then I would be back at where ever I
was in my projection. I switched between
the two places a few times. I can’t
really try and stop it until i’m back in
my body. This is my first outer body
exsp. In all my other episodes I was just
paralysed and had an evil spirit or ghost
taking me - that's what really scares me
about the howl thing. I'm worried that
when in an 'astro projection" it could all
go pair shaped and I could start seeing
and experiencing bad things.
Even though it has its interesting side, I
really want this to stop. Are most
doctors aware of this sleeping disorder ?
Will he know what i'm talking about ??

I have had this in my past, and I believe
it is an evil presence. When I was
getting to where it was lessening I
remember "thinking" that the wind noise
and the held down was the spirit of .God
rebuking the presence in my room, and it
made them easier, and they would quit
sooner. They were so horrible, I felt
like I would die, I never had the dragging
me across the floor thing, always still in
my bed and completely unable to move at
all.
These happened to me right after I turned
my life over to .God, and I believe the
enemy was mad cuz he couldnt get at me
like he could before .God came into my
life. It was the scarryst thing I have
ever been thru. And I was also having
symptoms at the time, of head paralysis.
I would feel like my head was going to
sleep when I would lay down. That was
scarey enough in itself.
Just say .Jesus when they are happening,
and do not entertain the leaving the body
experience. It could also be the enemy.
If .God wants you to be freed from your
body, that is one thing, but there are
demons who can make you leave your body.
So examine that for where the source
might be coming from.
Let me re-phrase, I mean say .Jesus in
your mind--cuz if you are like me--i
couldnt speak either. .Jesus can hear
your thoughts.
Good luck, .God bless you.

I have had sleep paralysis events as long
I can remember. They never occur middle
of the night, but mostly when I take a
nap, or sleep late...
Although it has happened countless times,
it's always so frightening. It feels like
if I don't force myself awake, i'll die
immediately. And it's always so gruelling
task to wake up then
there seems to be quite a number of people
who have often experienced sleep
paralysis. Still I dont know any
discussion boards where they (we!) could
share experiences. I would like to get
more information about sleep paralysis,
especially if it has any relations with
any diseases etc.

Sleep Paralysis History, Advantages, & Possible Preventi Posted: 02-28-06 16:39pm
This phenomenon is indeed ancient; in
earlier days many believed it was the work
of a night demon (and regularly called
incubus, succubus) or witch (hence the
name “old hag” syndrome) who is
thought to sit on the chest of sleepers in
the night, scaring them and causing
nightmares.
Currently, it is well known as sleep
paralysis; which is derived from a normal
sleep paralysis that does not ware-off
upon awakening. Although it is
theorized that the cause is “mechanisms
in the brain" there is no clear or
specific evidence as to what causes this
phenomenon and why. The medical community
has linked sp to disorders such as,
narcolepsy, depression, anxiety, and even
schizophrenia because they share similar
symptoms involving hallucinations,
paralysis, vibrations, panic and fear etc.
Still, there is no evidence that
specifically links sp to other disorders.
Most people that suffer from sleep
paralysis are healthy, physically and
mentally.
So, how can we use this to our advantage
instead of fearing it? Some believe that
sp is a gateway to an out of body
experience, or astral projection. Well,
some people focus on leaving their bodies
during an episode to experience an obe,
others close there eyes and try to have an
astral projection by thinking of a
specific place and time that they wish to
be.
What if you do not want this experience,
regardless of any opportunity for
adventure? Before you decide, first
remember that some people are very envious
of those who have experienced this,
although its scary, they are curious to
know what it is all about. Some even
consider sp to be a special gift of
communicating with spirits. But if
that’s not enough to make you want to
experience sp, there are ways of
prevention. For some, a way to prevent
sleep paralysis is by never sleeping in
the supine (on your back) position because
it is the most common position for a sp.
When I start drifting into sleep or wake
up while on my back, I will immediately
feel a paralysis coming on; so I tend to
avoid that position. Having an alarm wake
you up in the morning will also help
prevent sp, that is if you do not wake up
before it goes off. Other factors that
may decrease the chances of experiencing
sleep paralysis is to avoid stress and
irregular sleeping schedules; naps,
sleeping in, sleep deprivation and sudden
lifestyle changes.
Overall, this experience is hard to
avoid, it seems to happen when it wants,
where it wants and gives a person no
warning. Sometimes a year can go by and
you think that you are free from it and
then another terrorizing episode will
occur. To those who are worried about
these experiences, relax;you are not alone
and you are most likely not suffering from
any mental disorder. There is certainly
no need to fear sp, although frightening,
these experiences will not harm you, if
anything they will enlighten you.

I have had this before.
I hear a buzzing in the room like a loud
amplifier. I see the tv turned on like
an 'ant war' (you know, when its fuzzy
with no receptions). I cant move an
inch, and I cant breathe. It takes a
while for it to stop and then I snap out
of it. When I snap out of it, the t.V is
off, I am breathing heavy deep breathes.
Its such a horrible thing!

Im a 29 yo male and when I sleep I often
wake in a terrified state - paralised
most times, unable to move or make sound
to wake my partner. I nightmare of things
holding me down and of a presence of
something in the house or the room. Often
I open my eyes, or I at least think I
have, and see things. Other times I have
woken to think "caca that was a realy bad
nightmare" only to hear doors close and
the like seconds later. This has been an
on and off thing for most of my life but
has worsend considerably of late. I live
in suburban australia and have lived in
many different houses. I am afraid to
sleep at night fearing what will wake me,
after wich I will often not sleep for
hours until I am settled or in some cases,
convince myself that there is some
unexplained presence in the house and go
outside. To better help with suggestions,
the following is what my partner
witnesses...
I wake to hear him wimpering with strange
(heavy, noisy) breathing. When awoken he
stares blankly at me, the roof, the wall,
the door - or anywhere else in the room,
then after a few seconds, jolts as if
startled and becomes fearful. He has
been fearful of me, of the 'noises' in the
house/room and of the 'presences' he feels
in the room. Other times, I wake to feel
him kicking/nudging me awake and when I
awake him, he tells me that he could not
wake up as if being held down by
something.
He has also awoken scared and on one
occassion, was as white as a ghost and
genuinely fearful.
Any help would be great I dont care how
strange it sounds I just want to sleep one
night or even know what is happening

Re: My Sleep Paralysis Posted: 04-10-06 21:59pm
You are having a true nightmare
this is waking up not able to move pos
seeing and hearing things
having constant nightmares can be
medication caused some medications like
pamalar are known to cause this side
effect.
If not medication caused this could be due
to a chemichal imbalance in the brain.
And pos. A medication can take away the
problem. See your Dr.
im 17 and scared because lately i cant
sleep i hear things in my room i've always
had trouble trying to sleep i had to be
hospitalized, while being hospitalized i
saw a black shadow over me then i try to
close my eyes and i couldnt i try to move
and scream but i was paralized . my OBE
happen about 2 days ago i was trying to
sleep and i was laying facing my celling
my brother was in my room on the computer
and i try to move but my hands were up
infront of me and i try to scream for him
and try to move my legs i try to open my
eyes but i coulnt i felt something heavy
on me then i felt as i had jumped of a
bridge then i open my eyes and my brother
was just staring at me he said if i was
okay he was scared he said that i wasnt
moving but i told himm i try i wanted to
tell my mom but she would have probadly
not believe me . i hate the dark i cant
breath i feel weird and i see things i
hardly sleep i try to sleep in the day so
it wont happen . i have had so many OBE's
i dint know astro projection existed
untill i saw a girl on montel talking to
Sylvian Brown....Sylvia saind theres a

After reading all your responses i can
safely say most of whats happened to you
lot is happening to me too. It scares the
living crap out of me and i hate it and i
never want to sleep because of it. Im a 21
year old male, and have been getting them
since i was 20, they first started around
Jan this year, but i only get it around
once or twice a month at the moment. I
never feel the pressure on my chest though
and although i dont have trouble breathing
i seem to have this panic that i am not
going to be able to breathe soon which is
strange coz how would u know that. Also i
cant move at all and i really try hard to
open my eyes, yet they appear open as i
can see things around me, but yet i still
try to open them like as if i think theyre
closed, and they probably are. I find it
impossible to move, and on the odd
occasion i can move its extremely slowly,
but then when i awake i find i havent
actually moved at all. Last time it
happened, i felt like i had been stood up
and was standing on my bed. I was unable
to shout for help so for some reason i
started singing, but when i awoke i hadnt
actually said a word and was never
standing on my bed. The song i thought i
was singing was "take me to the clouds
above" which is freaky lol hope that has
no resemblence. I find myself getting
extremely frustrated coz i cant move or
get up and i can hear stuff going on
around me and just wanna get up but i
cant. Although i can see the surroundings
around me things often seem fairly white
or even as if its misty.
I panic a lot coz of the fact i feel so
uncontrolled, but i never seem to have
nightmares, i have on one occasions but
the other occasions its almost as if i
hadnt even been asleep yet or it was just
a normal dream. The last time was a
nightmare but just a panicky sort of one
not a really really frightening one
Also i only seem to get it when i nod off
or nap, not often during my nights sleep.
Its as though there is a force holding you
down so u cant get up its awful. Most of
the time i just stay on my bed, i dont
leave and go anywhere. Sometimes i feel as
though i have moved, like ive stood up on
the bed or something but that is all.
Im a bit scared of going to sleep tonight
on my own as my partners away for the next
few weeks...... i really dont wanna go to
sleep but i know if i stay up and get
overly tired im just increasing the
chances of it happening

this is something that i haven't yet heard
of. it's a mystery to even me. maybe if
you go into more detail? nothing is coming
to mind. are you awake when these things
happen? or sleeping? and what exactly is a
3rd eye? that is new to me i've learned so
much from these forums so far maybe we can look
into it

So I've had this sleep paralizing feeling
my whole life and it always scared me so
much since I'm claustraphobic and hate the
feeling of not being able to move.
The paralis hit me last night as a matter
of fact.
I was watching Montel today and Sylvia
something was on there and someone
reporting the same feeling and she said
all it was was astro projection.
Of course I was curious so I began to
google this and read all about it,
including it's symptoms, most of which I
had and which most of you have described.
Well needless to say I think I did! Now
to let you know I have a very open mind
and believe in this type of stuff which
most of you might not...
So here's what happened:
I went to sleep after fully relaxing
myself and at some point all the sudden I
stood up from my bed and I could hear my
boyfriend coming home up the stairs and I
could see my body (I was wearing the same
clothes I was sleeping in) and I could see
the room around me (although blurry) and I
could also see my dog at the door whining
b/c she heard my boyfriend too. I
remember thinking to myself that I need to
wake up before he comes in so I willed
myself to wake up by repeating it again
and again. Well the paralis hit me and I
felt myself try to pull away and
Isucceeded in lifting my arms a little
trying to wake up which I could feel and I
thought my eyes were open still because I
could still see the room around me. The
my boyfriend walked in the door and then I
actually woke and opened my eyes to find
my arms in the same position I had fallen
asleep in. It was crazy, and I know it
sounds crazy but it happened!
So my question is, I wonder if this out of
out of body stuff is real or am I just
nuts?

Sigh Posted: 10-11-07 03:12am
i am not good in english, but i will try
to make my story in detail.. here it
goes...
my problem started when i was a kid..
as i remember, my 1st experience... while
sleeping.. i felt my spirit was outside my
body, i saw my room.. i saw myself
sleeping beside my younger sister.. when
i woke up, all is same position..
sometimes, i thought my eyes is still
open, and heard footsteps outside my door,
then i heard someone was knocking (3 loud
knocks), i open my eyes, get up my bed,
open the door and there was no one.. at
that time, i just smile and say.. oh i was
dreaming! so embarrassed!..
when i was 1st year high school.. one
night, i can't sleep... i just close my
eyes... maybe 30 minutes has past, i heard
someone was laughing.. i open my eyes.. no
one was there.. so i thought, maybe there
was someone who passed infront our house..
i closed again my eyes, i heard it again,
it felt very near to my ears.. and cold..
i get up to bed, i checked inside our
house.. there was no one.. then i
thought.. maybe i fall to sleep, that i
was just dreaming.. i went to bed again..
i closed my eyes.. just a seconds had
past... i heard it again.. but i decided
not to open my eyes.. the laughed was
getting louder and louder.. then i saw a
man, a pretty face man & i got scared
when i saw he has 2 horn on his head! i
tried to open my eyes, but i can't.. my
whole body got numb!.. i tried to shout,
but i can't.. then i succeeded moving my
right foot, then my eyes open... i was so
confused.. am i dreaming? did i fall to
sleep?
after that experience... any places,
anywhere i go.. every time i fall asleep,
and heard 3x knocking at the door... i
know i have a visitor... people that i
don't know.. (i guess their dead people)..
they were watching me... every OBE
experience gets worst and worst.. they
trying to pull my spirit outside my body.
sometimes they sing my favorite song!
(weird huh!). this February 2007, the
episode was, a shadow man sitting beside
me, he was singing while touching my left
cheek.. i saw everything in my room, i saw
my computer was still on.. my green light
lamp shade was still on, i saw my
partner.. she moved beside me, i felt my
partner's body at my back.. i try to
move... but i can't... i try and try until
i succeeded moving my right foot... then i
saw everything the same... my girlfriend
was shocked, asked me what happened?,, i
asked my partner did she move, she said
yes.. then she noticed my left cheek... i
had a scratch... scratch looks like came
from a cat! no blood.. very red scratch
that has no blood... (its hard to
describe, poor english).
i know there's something wrong with me..
but im still hoping there's a medication
for this...
im 31 years old and still having OBE
experience... the quack doctor told me, i
have a gift.. he said, every time my eyes
close... my 3rd eye open.. he didn't give
me an explaination... he just told me, i
should talk to a psychic... to get help,
and learn to handle this, he also told me,
that it has no cure.. the best way is to
accept the power that was given to me..
i hope someone can help me... i am
scared... what if.. i have no more
strenght to fight this... what will happen
to me...

i think the quack doc might be right!
maybe you have a gift to reach out and
hear or communicate to the other side.
some people have that gift i don't, and
sometimes i'm glad, other times i wish i
had it. try to roll with it. as far as the
scratch, that is some stuff i wouldn't
mess with. i would see if there is
something someone could do to cleanse your
house. when you are asleep and your
defenses are down, there are many things
that can happen. the knocking 3 times
sounds very familiar to me. like i think
it's the 3rd hour after midnight when
spirits actually come around. have you
seen the movie the exercism of emily rose?
ughhh hated that movie. but i believe it
was the 3rd hour after midnight. can
anyone relate to what i'm saying? lol i
hope so. but hey, you're not crazy! i
asssure you. i think you do have a gift.

also, i have to agree with kenyaann8. i
was watching silvia brown when i suddenly
realized that my house wasn't so much
haunted, i was having out of body
experiences. to the point where my husband
saw me sit up as a spirit, but my body was
laying down. he was freaking out

i don't like watching horror movies.. its
not that the story is not good.. i get
bored... people in the movie theater, they
all shouting.. me! i laugh because i find
them silly (sorry)! the real thing is.. im
not scared of things when i'm awake.. i am
scared when my eyes is close..
i didn't notice the time when the knocking
3x visit me... actually, now at present...
i don't hear any more knocking.. they just
all come near me.. touch me, when i'm
asleep..
i don't know any movie exercism... i like
to watch it.. maybe it can help me
understand..
to tell you the truth... i don't want this
so called "gift".. i want normal life.. i
don't know... i don't understand life
anymore.. this thing makes me miserable..
i do believe in GOD.. i do read Bible.. i
respect christians & moslems.. i know
i am a good person.. but why me..

I have experienced sleep paralysis many
times. It is a sleep disorder. There is
a chemical in your brain that does
paralyze you whenever you go to sleep and
this is a normal every-night experience
for most people during the REM period of
sleep (it is the same chemical that
prevents you from sleepwalking while you
are dreaming). From what I have read,
sleep paralysis occurs basically when your
REM sleep and chemicals in your brain
don't sync up or turn on and off at the
same time. I know it produces alot of
anxiety because you are not in control of
your body. What works best for me is as
soon as I feel one of these episodes
coming on (the first sign for me is this
ringing in my ears), I try to relax myself
and think reassuring thoughts (i.e. this
is just a dream, I'm safe) and they I try
very hard to move my arms or legs because
as soon as I can move them the episode
stops. It's really hard to do at first
but once you realize that this is what's
happening, it gets easier every time.
These episodes happen to me for 2 main
reasons - one being medication (the first
episode I had, I was recovering from
surgery and was on narcotic pain killers)
and laying on my back- these episodes have
NEVER happened while I am laying on my
side.
