I had a broken neck back in 1977 and today suffering from severe neck pain and numbness in my hand. My doctor has tried several types of medication and finally I have been on muscle relaxors and pain pills. These drugs make me woosey and I am afraid to go to work while taking them but I need to take 2 soma 350 and 2 darvacets every 4 to 6 hours. The nurse at work suggest going on std and the ltd. Can I do this? If so, what am I entitled to, I have 4 minor children as well. I cannot work and take drugs, if I do I can be fired from the companymif I get injured or hurt someone else. Am I entitled to ss and disability for myself and children?

You need to see about being put on short term disability so that you can get acustomed to takign your meds. Also, I have never seen a doctor prescribe soma more than 4 tablets a day. If you are taking 2 every 6 hours, it will take you a long time to get used to and you may actually begin to have other symptoms.

It may be necessary for you to have them prescribe physical therapy and maybe send you to a pain specialist that can begin a treatmet regimine to help you cope with the pain for the long haul. I know it can be scary to be a chronic pain patient, I am one too. It does get better as they get more aggressive in their treatment.

Good luck,
brian

By agressive I mean the doctors willingness to move ahead and treat this pain with dramatic action. If the disc is bulging it does not have to mean invasive surgery, it can be helped with physical therapy (non-agressive) or steroid injections (still non-agressive but more so than p.T.) and then there are other minimally invasive treatments where the doc inserts a wire into the nucleas (sp) of the disc and heats it up to essentially melt the core and allow the bulge to shrink and also if there are tears in the disc this will help to mend them by melting the disc and patching itself.

If they choose to go invasive it will be a life changing surgery, it could give you 100% mobility and pain free living or for someone like me, the charite disc replacement at l5/s1 fixed my discc pain but now I am suffering from facet nerve/joit pain and begining to have sclerosis at l4/5 and l5/s1.

Again, you are on a very strange mix of meds for the pain you are having and I would venture a guess that it is not the darvacet that is making you woosy but the soma at such high levels.

You should try to private message a person on this forum that goes by the name: painphysician and ask what he would suggest if in fact he will suggest anything. It can be dangerous for a doc to offer free advice so if he will help I think you will be very pleased with his answer.

Good luck,
brian
