I know this is long but please read!

O.K. I am 14 and I have been to the doctor and er many times for bad chest pain, left arm pain, neck, back and stomach pain. I had mris and nerve test for nerve damage; there was none. I had mri's to look for more damage, nothing was found. Everytime I went to the er they kinda blew me off and the ekg's and chest x-rays where normal. I had blood tests too, supposedly normal. Then an echocardiogram where they look at your heart, looked fine. Then last but not least a ct scan. They said it showed nothing and my cacification number looked fine. (however they never said if it was 0 wich it should be which makes me mad.) I am going to a pshycologist and am on lexapro and take xanax when I seem really anxious but it doesn't really help. Neither does breathing exersizes or exercize or relaxing thoughts "thinking good thoughts" or muscle relaxing things. I can't relax. I think I am going to die or have a heart attack alot. I carry asprin with me and think about it all the time. Nothing helps. It is really effecting me and my family.

My point is, I was diagnosed with anxiety and panic attacks because they couldn't find anything wrong, just maybe chostocondratis, which is inflamed chest muscle. They said it was nothing to worry about, and it will go away with a counseler and medicine and it can't do you any harm. But everyday non-stop I have this chest pain or discomfert or something like a feeling a hand is there. The doctor said it was anxiety attacks and panic but those should only last a few hours, mine lasts all 24 everyday for a few months like 2 or 3!

Would they really know if there was something wrong with me or my heart after all those tests? Becasue I think they overlooked something or didn't check good becasue I am young or don't believe me, like they are poo pooing me off or something. I feel like I will have a heart attack and die, I can't control it. These thoughts and really bad chest pain effect me 24/7! So would the doctors really know and can panic attacks and anxiety last that long and give you that pain? Please respond and thanks for reading I know this was long.

U sound just like me. I am 22 and have had alot of test 2 ekgs, echocardiogram, stroke test, and a couple more. I still worry somethings wrong with me, more than likely its probably not. We are young and have had numerous test, that should be enough to tell us were fine. But its not. I take lexapro for my anxiety, which helps. I am not telling u to start taking it, but it does help. Just try to do something. Dont sit at home and let it soke into your mind. Go out find a partner, do something, thats the best way to get it out of your mind. Peace

Hi,

let me give you my story, maybe it will help you. I had shoulder and neck pain for 2 months this summer. I tried everything! I went to a chiropractor multiple times, I had tons of x-rays, all kinds of blood work multiple times , I had 3 or 4 ekgs, and I even had a very expensive catscan done. I spent a day in the er and the bill was around $4500 (thank god for insurance). The pain was deep inside my shoulder, so I was on naproxene (an anti-inflammatory pain reliever) for a month, and after that ran out I continued to take a lot of anti-inflammatories (ibuprofen, then finally celebrex). And then I developed a lot of anxiety. We're taking a lot of anxiety.... Crying like a baby and wishing I could go to sleep forever just to escape it all.

Guess what the problem was? Myofascial pain! Myofascial pain has to do with the muscles, so it was tiny muscle knots that referred pain to other parts of my body. I found all this out by finally seeing an orthopedic surgeon. But he only suggested that I get more exercise. It wasn't until I did some self-therapy (with a tennis ball against the wall) that the problem went away. I found a good book that helped me find the correct places to work on. It's called something like the myofascial trigger point therapy workbook.

But, regarding the anxiety... I think that was caused by a reaction to all the anti-inflammatory drugs I was taking. Supposedly i'm in the 1-2% category that has that kind of reaction to them. After I stopped them the anxiety totally left (also a christian friend prayed for me at the same time it stopped, so I should mention that :-). Are you on any drugs? If so, research them and see if they are contributing to your panic attacks.

You are not alone in this. Actually, just 2 days ago my anxiety attacks came back and I have no idea why. That's why i'm even reading these boards. It might be an overactive adrenal gland, don't know.

Btw, trust what the doctors say about your heart. If they've done all those tests and then tell you you're ok, then there's nothing wrong with your heart. I bet it's the anxiety that's giving you those sensations. As far as the pain in all those places, who knows but maybe it's myofascial pain. I know that everyone who has had an illness tries to diagnose everyone else with it, so sorry, i'm just giving you my own experience. Go to a bookstore and thumb through that book I mentioned above, it couldn't hurt. And all the advice in the book is free, no medication or anything to buy. Just some advice.

Here's a page that give more info on myofascial pain:

god bless you, and hang in there. You'll get through this and have a happy life even though it doesn't seem like that now.
