Q: Tightness In Chest After Running

I used to be a swimmer and a very in shape athlete, but i'm fairly out of shape now and just began running. The past two times I ran in cold weather, after I ran I tried to take a very deep breath it hurt in the middle of my chest and when I tried to exhale all the way it hurt as well. Taking somewhat shallow, or regular breaths did not hurt. I have a little bit of a chest cold and have been clearing my throat a lot. I have no history of heart problems except a very very minor murmur, but I do have a history of health anxiety and hypochondria. Is this a normal chest pain due to the cold and running and being out of shape or is this anginal?

Steve, same thing happened to me last week, and with almost the same background as you. I used to be a swimmer, and this last month i'm starting to catch up with running. The range of temperatures of running here is 20-35 and usualy with two long sleeves and gloves I was doing ok. But chest pain appeared twice, the second time much worst than the first. I discarded a heart problem as the pain is very persistent. Finally i've been diagosed with costochondritis, an inflammation of the cartilages in the chest. Just have to rest and hope it doesnt happen again. If it keeps on happenning, i'll se what the doctor says.
Hope this helps.

tightness in sternum
I just got this about a couple weeks ago. It feels like someone is taking both their thumbs and digging them right square in the middle of my chest. I can't remove the "thumbs" and am hoping it's just stress. I got Pleurisy last year at this exact month. But the pleurisy felt like I got shot in the chest, this feels more surface-like.
