Q: So, So Scared For My Babies!

This morning at five thirty, I woke up having sharp pains deep in my abdomen. I tried to ignore them, and tried to go back to sleep. I eventually discovered that I couldn't. I got up and had a shower. Usually that wakes up the twins and they start moving around (they're most active in early morning and early evening). I got worried when the pains continued and I couldn't feel the twins moving and all. I called my half sister on her cell and she told me just to be calm and wait a few more minutes.
Five minutes later, I was truly panicking. I was sitting on the kitchen floor, and I felt like I was being punched in the stomach. I was so terrified, I started crying. Nobody else was home with me; my brother (my legal guardian) is in florida with his girlfriend, and my half-sister was at work.

Eventually, I called my half-sister again. I described what I was feeling in my stomach to her and she came home right away. She said it sounded like I was having contractions.
She took me to the hospital, and they checked me; they said it looked as though I was having false labor. When they checked the ultrasound though, I was told there was only one strong heartbeat!

I am praying that it was false and that both of my babies are healthy. Only time will tell.

That's all they said? They just left it at that? Did they do a transvaginal u/s?

Yes, they did, but things were still unclear for some reason. My obstetrician, Dr. Ratptka, thinks that maybe their hearts are beating in sync. They definitely heard one of the heartbeats, but I have another appointment tomorrow morning. Dr. Raptka said that he thinks that everything's fine and I shouldn't be worried until I get the new results tomorrow. They don't seem that worried, but I still am. I guess we'll just see. I just posted this to see if anyone had a similar experience.

Sorry, just reread that. No, not a transvaginal. The doctor insists that I just had an upset stomach, or even mild false labor. I do have another appointment tomorrow though.

Jewelskye, just wondering if there is a history of twins in your family? Because it is a known fact that twins are hereditory.

My great aunts were fraternal twins. I'm not sure about any others.

Michelle, I had my appointment. This time they did do a transvaginal. Both of the babies are fine. The smaller one they said was probably just not getting as much "air time" as the larger one, and Dr. Raptka said that sometimes the heartbeats are hard to distinguish. But both babies are healthy. They also found out the gender of the twins, but I said not to tell me. I'll find out in may. :)

If you were having even "mild" false labor, they would have kept you in and given you drugs to stall out your labor and put you on bed-rest. They wouldn't simply shrug it off, do an ultrasound and send you home. That's ridiculous.

If you saw my other thread (triplets?!?!?!), then you'd know that i've already been advised to have a second opinion. I also think i'm going to look into getting a new doctor.
